Re: Nations League & Friendlies

I think there's a massive range in how serious teams are taking it, however, the lower down the ladder, it does seem that its throwing up competitive matches between countries. So, yeah, probably worthwhile for that. I think it'll take two or three iterations to settle down, but the final stages (2...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

I like it. Two qualifying tournaments for the same set of finals being held at the same time. Only the football authorities could come up with something so mental to make qualification for a tournament finals so over-complicated and confusing (talking the Euros 202 qualification set up and process ...

Re: England - the future....

Great work from Southgate and the team. An amazing result to win in Spain A word on Pickford though. 2 of our goals came from his well placed kicks but ... What was the dive before any shot came in? Somehow he ended up saving the shot that followed! And the needless corner? And the dithering that l...

Re: The Non - League thread

Bournemouth FC 6-0 Newquay I get the impression Cornish football isnt of the highest standard. Newquay have made a decent start in the South West Pennisula league (Step 6) but looked way below Bournemouth's level (Step 5). Minor Pendant alert : ...I feel you ought to ask Bridport (0-6 v Falmouth) o...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

[b]The complicated bit is that the Nations League doubles up as a repecharge tournament for teams who don't qualify for the Euros (replacing current play-off) - 1 spot is available to each league, so means a smaller nation will qualify for Euro 2020. If the league finished today, one of Georgia, Ma...

Yep, would be very surprised if they aren't in the repecharge given there are 12 spots they could take after the first 20 teams have qualified.

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

I don't understand this tournament at all but the Dutch beat the Germans resoundingly yesterday so it's great, I guess? I think so, but unsure how seriously teams take it. Gibraltar won their first competitive game yesterday which is nice. I think there's a massive range in how serious teams are ta...

Group stages are paired Rome/Baku is probably the worst Copenhagen/St Petersburg Amsterdam/Bucherest London/Glasgow is the most convenient Dublin/Bilbao Budapest/Munich As a one off, I think its a grand idea. Would not want every Euros to be like this. Wembley has a R16 game as well btw. UEFA have ...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

Italy getting a last second winner away at Poland. Italy look like they are on their way back, Mancini getting their shit in order. On their way back? A last minute win over Poland on the back of a 1-1 draw with Ukraine. Not sure I'd see that a great progression, it certainly wouldn't be sold that ...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Does the International break go? I don't think it can go but more should be done to promote lower league domestic football during this time. It is a huge missed opportunity by the Football League to get more people into League 1 and 2. I do not think it can go, they need to use it for quals for Eur...

Re: The Football League Thread 18/19

This is a tough one as Rotherham and Wigan (two of my preseason relegation picks have had good starts. I would say it will be Rotherham, Bolton and Ipswich who will go . Ipswich will pay the price for thinking they can do better than Mick McCarthy. Their supporters made a huge error in forcing him ...

Re: The Manager Sack Race/Merry-go-Round

Dean Smith in at Aston Villa. John Terry assistant manager. Think Brentford will be ok. With their business model I don't think it will matter too much who is in charge there, the wheels will keep on turning. John Terry to be AV manager by Christmas 2019 has to be a decent bet. Strange that Smith h...

Wolves 0-3 Reading http://www.royals.org/matdoc/300908.html 10 sodding years ago  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMOAQRLZGWI The worst thing is that I literally have no memory of that game or that performance. Re: BFTG West Brom

Certainly some of the chopping and changing is down to injury but there are several examples: the dropping of Ilori for McShane being one despite Ilori being in good form, the swapping of Yiadom to the left to accommodate the equally capable on the left Gunter upon his return from injury, the const...

Re: BFTG West Brom

The late, great Bill Shankly always said that before signing a player he wanted to know as much about him and his character as he could discover. He said that anybody could see a player's ability on the pitch so there was nothing difficult in spotting a good player but it was so important to know m...

Anyone arguing that relegation would not be a bad thing is simply undertaking their own delusion so that if it does it won't seem as bad.

Re: BFTG West Brom

A front 2 of Bod and Baldock would have changed that game immeasurably. Sadly I think it's time to put Mannone back in. After the last game I expressed my doubts about Walkers distribution and several people on here had posted about his aerial ability. His experience is showing and Mannone is just ...
