Re: José Gomes whelmguage

I'm confused as fcuk but 100% behind the manager. Feels like too much misplaced ire directed at him. He's basically a patsy and absolutely not to blame for anything. Not his fault the heirarchy at the club have had a 3 week long collective brainfart and I won't be blaming Gomes if or when it goes e...

Re: Jose’s task starts here

No Ian, it comes across that you have a need to prove yourself more right than every one else to the point that you argue over semantics with people who are essentially agreeing with you. Anyway, not seeing any indicators of the great leap forward that Clement's sacking was meant to herald. Stabilit...

Re: Jose’s task starts here

I think he's on a hiding to nothing. Doesn't mean we should be negative towards him though.

Maybe that's the plan. Get relegated under some unknown that everyone hates then appoint the Messiah to hopefully shoot fish in what they assume is the barrel that is League 1.

Re: Jose’s task starts here

Which is not so precisely my point.

Do you always have to overanalyse everything to the point that you disappear up your own arse, Ian?

Re: Jose’s task starts here

If the level of mouth frothing on here over his appointment is anything to go by, I can see them calling for his head before the year is out regardless of the results.

Re: Jose’s task starts here

Can I point out that McDermott and Pardew took over in similar circumstances and it took McDermott a month to get his first league win and we won only 3 of our first 20 league games under Pardew, and that included a run of 13 without a win.

Don't expect instant miracles.

With you, that's not entirely implausable, Ian

Anyway, I've said my piece.

Re: New Manager

I've repeatedly made it clear who I thought was the best candidate. We could pick apart any candidate should we wish but I just don't see how relentless negativity about the appointment helps in any way.

Re: New Manager

So basically, the key problem here is the club, not the manager. Any appointment would be underwhelming and likely to fail in these circumstances.

I'm not defending Gomes, I just think it's fcuking appalling that people are writing him off before he's even given a chance.

Re: New Manager

Allardyce and Pardew will be looking to the Premiershp for a rescue job, Jokanovic doesn't want the job, Tisdale would be as big a gamble as Ainsworth, Parky could maybe keep us up but could he take us forward? We need stability. I would have looked to someone like Ainsworth or Tidsdale who could po...

Re: New Manager

No, I'm acceptimg that whilst Aimsworth may be an attractive proposition on paper, there are still question marks. Maybe we need a coach with a different perspective who can bring something fresh? Gomes may not becan attractive proposition on paper but heccpuld be the right fit. We don't know yet. T...

Re: New Manager

I wanted Ainsworth because he got a team with limited resources to punch above their weight, where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. However Wycombe stuck with him despite relegation and escaping relegation from the league on goal difference. Our expectation is much greater and we woul...

Re: New Manager

Why? What do you actually know about him that isn't on his Wikipedia page? What do you actually know about him now that you already knew 3 weeks ago? Does he give youth a chance, does he get teams punching above their weight, is he a good man manager, did heceork at basketcase clubs with unrealistic...

Re: New Manager

The circumstantial evidence is more than just a hunch though isn't it? But pro or anti, it's all circumstantial and we're all pissing in the wind until he starts doing the job. I just don't see the need to instantly dismiss him before he starts the job just on the basis of his past record when it's...

Re: New Manager

Evans and Branfoot I can't comment. But I'd be really grateful if we could stop with the ludicrous apples and oranges comparisons... and the daft argument that it's invalid to think an appointment is poor just because an anecdotal sample of not comparable inexperienced managers did well. McGhee - i...

Brave team selection although I do remember us winning at the Riverside with a team of 12 year olds under Adkins.

Neither did Maurice Evans', or Ian Branfoot's, or Mark McGhee's, or Alan Pardew's, or Brian McDermott's. Brendan Rodgers' appointmemt met with popular approval though.
