As a few of us predicted Nigel Howe is back.

Good decision IMO. If the rumours about Gourlay upsetting pretty much everyone at the club are true, we will need a safe pair of hands to steady the ship and hopefully move the club forwards in a positive direction again.

It will be interesting to see whether he recommends to the owners that we retain or sack Clement. I am still of the opinion we should stick with the manager even if we go down (which i would say is 50-50).

Stability in the club must be the first priority for Nigel. From top to bottom. Clement should be allowed a fair crack to do the job he was employed to do. Changing manager simply adds to the clubs woes at the current time. From his radio interviews I have grown to like Clement. If Reading as a club intend to return to the ethos which made us successful then Clement appears to tick the boxes.

Smart move I think, the owners have gone for someone who will know the club's values and get the staff on side.

It would've been risky to go for another unknown and potentially upset the existing staff again. We know what we're getting.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the REP project as I understand Howe was really involved with that.

Isn't it interesting how high profile the role of CEO seems to be now.

Back in the day, 90% of the fanbase wouldn't be able to pick Nigel Howe out of a line-up, and now some people are celebrating his return like we've just signed a 30 goal a season striker.

The right move. Howe knows the club inside and out and will definitely steady the ship. Good news.

Good news. We desperately need continuity, calm, and a return to the Reading Way.

The manager will stay, I'm almost sure.

What will be more interesting is the Director of Football. We've seen nor heard nothing of Nani (Tevreden made himself available from the off and was pretty visible), and I believe Nick Hammond is not doing much these days.

Steve Coppell has just lost his assistant manager , Wally Downes, in India so perhaps he will return as well as Nick (y) Hammond..

Great appointment by the club.

It looks like our owners mean business.

My only experience of dealing with him was negative. They say you should not go back. Don't think he cares about long serving fans. Sorry just my experience.

His job isn't to care about the fans. His job is to make the club successful on and off the pitch by overseeing the day to day running of the club. That being said I would find it hard to believe that someone who has been linked with the club for as long as he has doesn't care about the fans.

There's a chap (non Reading fan) on Twitter who used to work for the club under him and then left under Gourlay - he's delighted about the news.

Did you actually deal with him directly? Or did you write to him or email him? (in which case who you were dealing with was probably his staff)

I've contacted the club about various things over the last 20 years - the responses have ranged from excellent to poor to non-existent. I don't think I'd judge anybody in particular for that, as I wouldn't know exactly who to blame.

"you should not go back" is more of a worry though
