Away Games at Jazz Café / Hotel

by royalp-we » 17 Sep 2017 11:40

Our away following looks unlikely to increase drastically until we hit the big time again. Especially against the many Northern-based teams in this league.

Would it not be an idea to stream away games in the jazz bar or hotel bar and charge say, £10 for entry :?:

Its no doubt been suggested before; Please discuss.

I think the issue would be that it's a fantastic way to drive away attendances down.

If anyone was considering whether to travel to Barnsley for example, spending £100 on a day out and then saw that actually about 200 fans are going up the Jazz to watch in a warm bar with beer flowing, they'd choose that.

It would have a direct negative impact on attendances I think.

The JC is rented out and the hotel isn't owned by the club, so they would need to pay the EFL for a license.

Not to mention getting a license from the EFL to stream away games live is likely to be neigh on impossible.

It's a non-starter.

If this was put into practice I would definitely get involved.

I would assume if it made economical sense the club would probably already be doing it but it feels a shame they don't put up a big screen (a la Brentford away in 2002) charge, say, £5 to get in then people can also drink in the stands when the game is on to top up the club profits. Could have the fosters backpack guys filling up your beer while you sit and watch the game.

From 2019 football league clubs will be able to stream their midweek games live, but how many would choose to go to the Jazz Cafe or hotel rather than just watch at home?
