Get the impression from social media that the Irish fans would take Peter Sutcliffe as long as he played some slightly attacking football.

A surprising amount of shouts for Big Sam. That would be awful.

You say that, but without Allardyce, England wouldn't have got to the World Cup semi finals

Excellent point. That was a tricky game against Slovakia that only a manager of his calibre could contend with.

I think he means it is thanks to Allardyce being a greedy cnut and getting sacked we did so well at the World Cup.

I am expecting a spate of sackings after the next week of matches, with clubs looking forward to the January transfer window.

I was playing along. I know he was not serious that Big Sam is to thank for any success any England team has ever had in any reality.

Mick McCarthy appointed as Ireland Manager until 2020.

I don't suppose that he will have Roy Keane in his coaching team.

Who will go first, Mark Hughes or Clement?
Very similar records over this past 7 months or so.
Both kept their respective clubs up but neither have kicked on with both clubs perilously close to the relegation places.

Crazy that Hughes still has that job.

can't really think of an ex Man Utd player from the Fergie era that has done well as a manager

Steve Bruce is a very good and successful Championship manager if that counts.

Hughes has had some good times.

Given how batshit most clubs are these days, how much managerial authority has been eroded, how few clubs look for a new manager when they're not in a mess and how little time you get, it's unsurprising most managers have plenty of failures in their records.

The media often go on about how players learned from the maestro whether that be Fergie, Shankly or whoever but it doesn't look as though they do learn.

It strikes me also that most successful managers are those that were not at the very top level as players probably because they had to work harder at the game and think about it more rather than rely on natural footballing ability.

Dalgleish did well enough (initially)

Souness didn't...

but generally 'greed on the point

(without really looking at the numbers)

Sol Campbell the new Macclesfield boss. Hopefully (for them) his views on lower league football have changed - he allegedly spent most of his time at Portsmouth complaining that the facilities weren't like at Arsenal, and of course as a player walked out of Notts County after one match.

One good starting point for Campbell is that is surely can't get any worse - Macclesfield only recently won for the first time in 37 games, although they've won again since, just five games later. Now 'only' 7 points from safety.

Well that's a bit of a shock. I didn't think anyone would ever give him a chance to be honest.
