Rumour - Stam to Swansea

by CavershamRoyal » 28 Dec 2016 07:44

Some sketchy reports coming from Holland this morning suggesting Swansea might be looking at Jaap after sacking Bradley...

http://www.foxsports.nl/nieuws/artikel/ ... -jaap-stam

Rough translation:
Jaap Stam is showing to become the new manager of Swansea City.
According to De Telegraaf, the head coach of Reading, six months after he started working at the club from the Championship, again go to the tail side in the Premier League.

The Swans took Tuesday after 85 days leave of Bob Bradley. The American could not improve the results in the club, which now stands nineteenth. In October, his predecessor Francesco Guidolin was already fired.

Giggs
Reading log was working on a strong season, the club is third in the English Football League. It is his first job as an independent head coach.

British media except Tribe also top candidate Ryan Giggs, Chris Coleman, Roy Hodgson and Jürgen Klinsmann said. At Swansea stand Leroy Fer and Mike van der Hoorn under contract.

Particularly in a defensive way to The Swans some tips using the former top defender. Swansea conceded no less than nineteen goals in the last six games. (FOX Sports)

Can't really see it happening after the work he's done here and the progress he's making - I'd imagine that even if we are a stepping stone, he'd wait for something a bit bigger. Stranger things have happened, though.

If he's not happy with the takeover he may decide to,quit. He'd be mad to go to Swansea though, looking like a club in huge trouble.

Always likely to be linked and he may be interested but it's going to be Ryan Giggs this time isn't it?

Think Klinsmann could be a good shout at 25/1.

Just seems like a dumb move for him right now. They should bring back Monk. Then sell us Gylfi.

Just updated my Royals Managers spready & Stam is currently number 1 based on win rate (56%) and points per game (1.85).

Assumes 3 pts for a win.
No allowance made for managing in different divisions etc. so not a level playing field for Sir Steve (9th in both categories) or BMcD Mk1 (8th & 7th n each).
Source of stats = soccerbase.

Was cynical/cautious when he was announced (big name ex-player) but I've been open-minded since then. You can argue we've been lucky at times this season but we've managed to grind out wins sometimes we haven't always deserved. There is a knack to that. BMcD Mk1 had it when we got promoted to Prem 2nd time and that was after several seasons in charge.
Stam has gone from a standing start to 3rd at Christmas. I'd have been happy with top 10 and OK with anything above 17th, as long as there was some promising signs, after the last couple of seasons.

I doubt it will be the last time his name is mentioned even if the team itself is still under the radar.

Has to be Pardew if they want to stay in the PL.

He seems to have an immediate impact as soon as he is appointed. However, Pardew suffers from second season syndrome but why worry about that given the crisis Swansea are in.

Just can't seem Stam as a leading candidate given his inexperience - might be a fourth of fifth choice if Giggs or Coleman don't take it.

Don't see this happening at all.

Would've thought this would be Giggs, Pardew or Klingsman

Pards almost always goes on a 10 match winless run every season. Palace were scoring loads under him but conceding the 3rd most in the league. We would be an awful appointment. They need a Pulis type.. (or a big sam)

If Stam keeps us in the playoffs this year and makes a good start to next season then we will probably loose him then, however I doubt he is stupid enough to jump ship to a club destined to be a Championship club next season. Stam comes across as considered and intelligent , it would be too big a risk to gamble his Managerial Career at such an early stage based on what he can do in the Winter Transfer window to sort Swansea out .

Unless he sees Swansea as a good bet to insta bounce back and thinks we'll struggle to maintain our good form.

If he does the unachievable and keeps them up great. If not, bounce back. Earn more all the way and still likely to get a second chance even if it goes tits up.

I'd like to think it's too soon to move and a big gamble, but football is all about reaching and grabbing for the stars immediately these days.

Even though I fervently hope it's all rubbish and than Stam would tell Swansea to feck orf if they did ask...., if, as rumoured, the prize paid by crisis clubs to managers for successfully maintaining PL status is circa £3-4 MILLION, then nothing can be taken for granted.

Down to a choice of Rowett or Clement.

Apparantly Stam was spotted at Magor services yesterday talking to a guy with an American accent....
