Fulham's Stephen Kelly To Sign

Reading are set to complete the signing of Fulham's Stephen Kelly after the player completed a medical at Reading this morning. Kelly, a defender, and Irish International, has made 61 starts for Fulham after signing on a free transfer from Birmingham City in the summer of 2009. He started his career at Spurs who were paid 750,000 pounds for the player in 2006. He has had his opportunities limited this season with his last appearance nearly a month ago when he came off the bench to play the second half during Fulham's defeat at QPR. He was an unused substitute for two of the next three fixtures but has struggled to get back into the starting eleven after being a regular first choice last term.

Kelly, 29, usually plays at right back, so his addition to the squad will provide plenty of competition for that position. Brian McDermott is going to have plenty of defensive options in a defence that's been reasonably tight since the last stuffing against Arsenal. It looks like letting goals in might no longer be the big problem as Reading attempt to fight off relegation. But what about scoring goals? Reading fans will be wondering if Reading are finished in the transfer window with this third signing or if a striker might be next on the shopping list.
