teams

Reading
Reading are certain to experiment with the side a litte - Simeon Howell has apparantly been named in the squad. On the other hand Pardew is being quoted as saying he'll field a strong side. So expect a mix. Upson may play depending on permission on Arsenal - but could well miss out so he doesn't become cup tied.

previous meetings

Since 1971 Reading and Cambridge United have met 24 times in the League and FA Cup - an interesting statistic is that the Royals have either lost or drawn all of our cup meetings with a draw and defeat in the FA Cup and two league cup defeats. In the league Reading have fared better with 10 wins compared to United's 5.
Reading wins: 10
Draws: 6
Cambridge wins: 8
Figures include League, League Cup, and FA Cup fixtures only.

2001/2002 Season:
James Harper scored the only goal at home that gave the Royals a 1-0 home win. Away from home we drew 2-2 to start an amazing run of draws that saw us go up in second place rather than Champions.
2 March 2002: Cambridge United 2 Reading 2
(Division Two)
18 September 2001: Reading 1 Cambridge United 0
(Division Two)

2000/2001 Season:
Viveash, Parky and Gurney scored the goals as Cambridge were beaten 3-0 at the Madejski Stadium. Away from home the Royals claimed a point in a 1-1 draw with Cureton scoring the goal.
7 April 2001: Cambridge United 1 Reading 1 (Division Two)
2 December 2000: Reading 3 Cambridge United 0
(Division Two)

1999/2000 Season:
During the 1999/2000 season Reading failed to impress in their meetings with Cambridge, in the first season we'd played them in the league since the 1993/1994 season. At home we played out a disappointing 0-0 draw while away from home they beat us 1-3 in a game right at the start of the season:
15 January 2000: Reading 0 Cambridge United 0 (Division Two)
14 August 1999: Cambridge United 3 Reading 1 (Division Two)

Back in the 1993/94 season I remember well the trip to Cambridge United for the first round of the FA Cup - getting soaked on the away end watching a dull 0-0 draw - the Royals then went on to lose the replay 1-2 at home! Thankfully in the league we managed the double with a 3-1 home win and a 1-0 win away.
