Re: Rival Watch

It's bizarre until you remember that it is Charlton. Not just Reading under a self imposed embargo. The fact that a promoted club is up for sale suggests that the (disliked) owners see this as a good opportunity to recover at least some of their investment. Suggests that this fills one of the 3 bot...

Re: Are we screwed?

Crowbar6753 Luton - May start well but will get found out quickly. The Champ is a big step up in class.

Sheff United came up with a settled team with no outstanding individuals.

Re: Are we screwed?

The Gods smiled down on Reading after Gomes arrival. Despite the January fire sale of assets. We managed to turn it around The post season pessimism is entirely predictable. Whatever the transfer business we achieve. We do appear to have acquired a great management team. The passion is infectious. A...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Loader and Barrett have been called up by England U20 and Ireland U21 respectively so we have three players at the Toulon tournament. Josh Sims is also playing for England and so are a few of the young players we've been linked to on loan. Dwight McNeil looks like the star man. Always thought Barre...

Re: Financial Fair Play

So we’re no under a self-imposed transfer embargo until players get moved on. If things really are that tight with FFP then we really need to get the likes of Gunter, McCleary, Kelly et all off the books ASAP, even if it means taking less for them in order to increase interest in them. That sad, I’...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Perhaps Blackett could play as the DM. What is the obsession with playing people out of position? Play them where they are best. For Blackett, that is left back. From the players available Gomes is going to need to cobble together a team that is competitive. Blackett sitting in as DM, can drop back...

Why has the optimism faded so suddenly. The writing was clearly on the wall as far as transfers is concerned.

Re: Next Season's Squad.

I think the comment related to Obita making a full recovery which would mean we had four proven Championship quality full backs plus three with first team appearances who all show various degrees of significant promise. As I said, not up to the standard of Murty and Shorey or Griffin and Harte, but...

Re: RUMOUR - Gomes wanted

Perhaps this explains why he never stays anywhere long. Full of personality. Lacking the stickability to see a job through to completion.

Hopefully this time. Gomes views Reading as the place to establish his reputation.

Re: RUMOUR - Gomes wanted

Oilroyal Edit: add in how well he worked all of the loanees and U23’s into a failing team and like I say, he’s the complete package.

That was good fortune. Let's see how he does at the beginning of next season. Particularly if the next crop of loanees (i.e. Steve Clarke era) don't work out so well.

Re: Promotion team 'must haves'

Loan players were once considered a hindrance. I notice that has changed in the second half of this season. Not really. Kept us up. The problems still remain though. If the summer intake doesn't gel. We'll be deeper into the mire than last year. There's a team in the making. Lacks experience and a ...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Swift wasn’t missed during the run in. He will command a good fee. Much rather sell him than Moore or Meite who would have been badly missed ( we scored once in our final three games of which Meite only played a few minutes). Out of all the saleable assets, barrow would be the first one out for me....

Denver Royal I would say the fitness levels of refs has improved markedly in recent years, which is commendable.

Suspect that money would be a major barrier. He's also a player that plays best when his next contract is on the line. Liked Williams a lot, but tbh he is the type of player we are moving away from - expensive in wages and injury prone Be interesting to see what level he is now after 18 months out ...

Hound Yep and probably increased each of the loanees values by at least 50% if not a lot more.

Host club pays their wages. Reading agree to give them maximum pitch time. Everybody is a winner.
