Re: Reading FC Poppy Pin Badge

I'd rather buy mine from the RBL so that the money goes to support the charity, unless there's a guarantee that these do, I wouldn't get one This. I was going to ask myself if the prospective seller could give a guarantee how much of the sale price would go to the RBL. Raising money for them is the...

Re: BFTG - Portsmouth (A)

Guess you might want to know about the goals too...

Novakovich opener was nicely sidefooted home after a quick series of passes on edge of area.

Penalty was very soft i thought.

Both Pompey goals from balls slicing our defence wide open. Second was a good finish bent past keeper

BFTG - Portsmouth (A)

That was a reasonably entertaining performance. Couldn't be arsed to stick around for the mickey mouse penalty kicks at the end. First half was a bit stodgy but thought we controlled it pretty much. Second half was quite incisive but far more open. Though McIntyre looked good till his mystery injury...

Re: On this day....

I was there for that one also. Most surreal football match I have ever been to. Had we just lost 3-0 or 4-1 I would have been livid...but somehow 7-4 just didn't register. Walking back home after the game you got the sense that it was the same for the Pompey fans too (happy though they were to have ...

Re: Pompey (a) EFL Trophy

Pretty tempted by this, if only for the fact its so rare to be able to walk to a match for me.

The feeling is that it'll be pretty deserted, you might even be able to get parked ok if you drive down I imagine (barring the normally dreadful Southsea parking anyway)

Re: BFTG - Ipswich home

Thought we looked good first half if a little ponderous. As others have rightly said it is a work in progress. Second half, when Ipswich pressed high and man marked our midfield, it screamed out for our players to move and interchange positions far more to break the man marking. I suppose this will ...

Parkinson needs to be next manager . Brian hasn't got a clue. Whilst i don't think McDermott has done a fantastic job thu far, what evidence has Parkinson shown that he would do any better in his managerial career thus far? I'm going to stick my neck out and say that if he were to be a successful m...

Re: How impressed are you with BMcD's return to the club?

How anyone can say, based upon what we know at the moment, that being in a genuine relegation scrap next season would represent an excellent achievement by the manager is unfathomably bizarre.

Re: Birmingham (H) Match Thread Sponsored by Seahawk's Excellent Adventure

This is by far one of the worst and most inept performances I've seen at the madejski for quite a while. No drive, no vision and not a lot of skill. Utter garbage. Too many foreign players, no passion, no heart. If you think think that applies only to players born outside of the UK you clearly neve...

Re: Birmingham (H) Match Thread Sponsored by Seahawk's Excellent Adventure

My dad who is a season ticket holder and been watching Reading since the 60's (commuting from Cardiff for every home game since the 90's) finally decided this would be his last Reading game. Nice of the team to try and ensure he in no way regrets that decision.

Re: The Zenith Data Systems Cup

Reading's greatest ever cup run, some of the most unlikely victories, biggest shocks, and for once, a happy ending. The stats of that cup run are pretty incredible - in winning the cup, Reading beat 5 top flight teams - 4 would end up in the top 10 of Division 1 (the Prem in new money) with QPR and...

Re: Back from the game - Palace

Watched on TV. Thought first half we did ok with Palace shading it, but as the game went on it felt like there would be only one winner (Goalkeeper heroics notwithstanding). Aside from Al Habsi thought Gunter had a very good game, as did McShane and Quinn. Cox played the lone forward role well also....

Re: Would you take Ola John permanently?

I voted no on the Ola John thing simply because we don't know how much he would be. A million plus and presumably significant wages for someone who has yet to nail down a starting spot in over 3/4 of a season is just too much for us at the moment. I suppose he still has a few games to prove what an ...

Re: Speculation - Le Fondre to return?

I wouldn't be averse to seeing Alf return. As long as the money was right (up to 500k maybe, hopefully less) and his wages reflected the fact he would be employed largely as an impact sub. It easy to forget that, even in our championship winning season, he was relegated to the bench once we signed R...

Re: How impressed are you with BMcD's return to the club?

If McD is so shit, why are people expecting him to achieve more in 12 games than the last two 'better' managers did in close to 3 years? :?: Most people seem to think the last two managers were shit. They're hoping McDermott is better. Some of us have *yet* to see any real evidence. And, as I seem ...

Re: 1993-1995 vs 2005-2007

I first started attending regularly shortly after McGhee took over so was utterly spoilt really. My vote goes to 93-95 comfortably. The football was less dominant, but felt far slicker. Somehow not quite making the promised land and having the squad break up (whilst heartbreaking) also lent that squ...

Re: How impressed are you with BMcD's return to the club?

We'd need to average 2 points a game from here on in to even come in to the reckoning for the playoffs. We have seen nothing thus far to suggest the kind of consistency required for such a run, so I wouldn't put my money on it. That being said I have a slightly tatty flat cap that would go down a tr...

Re: Would you swap Madejski Stadium for Elm Park?

I started out watching at Elm Park, and loved it....But how could anyone in any seriousness at all wish to go back in time? It was a dump, just it was our dump. I enjoyed watching football more back then...but I was younger and it was a far more entertaining team under McGhee. Agreed about the price...

Watched on tv.

That really was very dull wasn't it.

Nobody was utterly terrible (GK error aside) but nobody was terribly good either.

Haven't been to the Madejski in a while, certainly not tempted to make an early return on the evidence seen today...

Re: Back from the sofa

Wow, Think that may be the performance that finally makes me a convert to Clarke. Haven't seen us so incisive for quite some years. Goalie and Defence all did ok against a strong attacking unit set up to have a go at us. Tish and Norwood were very decent indeed whilst Quinn did ok Front 3 were all g...
