Re: SPECULATION: Andy Williams

Williams has joined Doncaster Rovers. Good move for them, would imagine he'll do well in league one again next year - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33203092

Re: SPECULATION - Maarten Stekelenburg

The Sun have reported today that Fulham want at least £2 million for Stekelenburg, and that Southampton are favourites to sign him. I think this one is a non-goer, wages & cost isn't worth it.

Re: Early Expectations for 2015/16?

I think you're a bit confused, or maybe I just misunderstood you. If Pearce leaves, Ferdinand remains unavailable, and we send Cooper on loan, our options at centre back will be Hector, Sweeney, Keown, Hyam, and Dickie (and Gunter/Sammi/younger players). We would have no choice but to play an unpro...

Re: Early Expectations for 2015/16?

It's worth bearing in mind that there's still three full months before the transfer window shuts, so I'm not unduly worried about the situation currently and so I'm going top-half of the table. The club will have been fully prepared for Federici to leave, and so I've no doubt they've prepared a numb...

Tony Alexander 1935-2013

Sorry if this isn't the right section to put it in, but former Reading player Tony Alexander has died - http://www.readingfcformerplayers.co.uk/news.php Not one of our greatest ever players, but he played his small part in our history and he was a local boy who progressed to play for his local team,...

Re: 1985/86 and all that

Wonderful read, thank you. That was the first year I really got into football, I was 7 when it happened. All the other kids at school supported Liverpool, Tottenham and so on, but I chose Reading as my argument was they were the most successful team as they kept winning! Shame that hasn't really pan...

Re: Where are they now?

Jamie Young is now at Basingstoke, managed by another former Royal, Jason Bristow. A current Royal, Matt Partridge, has also joined them, on loan. I think Basingstoke must have the most ex-Royals in their ranks over the last 20 years or so. http://www.basingstokegazette.co.uk/sport/10690949.Basingst...

Re: Paul Canoville

Black and Blue is, although I'll admit it's link to Reading is making me biased, is one of the top 3 sports books I have ever read. Parts of it are both inspiring and horrifying in equal measure. I remember him signing, it was such a coup at the time for us to get him. What a shame it never worked o...

Re: How many will we sign tomorrow?

The aforementioned "domino effect" will probably decide it -so I think they'll confirm two lower-key signings than perhaps expected and maybe one more young player that will initially join the u-21 squad, and then sign a couple of big guns in the loan window - say another left back if Brid...

Re: Stephen Kelly withdrawing from ROI squad

Hopefully all is okay, but the only thing that did come to mind is if he's not guaranteed a start (which he isn't), is it really worth him being away from his newborn and partner for about 10 days, including a foreign trip, for effectively no reason? I suspect he might've asked Trapattoni if he is l...

Re: Team for Yeovil (A)

I really can't see Pogrebynak or Le Fondre starting after last night, so it has to be Blackman up front. I don't see much change of the first XI from Blackpool, but I think the bench will be different after the Peterborough defeat. I can't see Kebe being involved either. So: McCarthy Bridge Morrison...

Re: The most embarrassing RFC result ever

I think this has to be the worst, if only because of the modern day and immediate trial by Worldwide Media. When we lost to Bishop's Stortford, the press coverage was minute to rolling -ticker-instant updates on a global scale that this one was. Certainly trending on Twitter for negative reaons is e...

Re: Blackpool (A) - Match Thread sponsored by a day at the s

If one early-season defeat against a team expected not to challenge for promotion - good start notwithstanding - is the catalyst for the manager to learn where we need to improve in our play, and to work out the best formation and the players to fit that formation effectively AND for the players who...

Re: Who was Reading's 'tidiest' ever player?

Michael Thorp was the first person who came to mind and I always felt he should've played more for Reading than he did. Always did an admirable job when he did play. I'd definitely also nominate Linden Jones, one of our better players during a very mediocre spell for us. Ulises de la Cruz is a good ...

Looks like a tough game on paper, but a week's rest and bags of confidence points to a 3-1 away win.

Re: Stat Help Wanted from any wrinklies out there ..

Have you tried contacting or posting on the Wisbech Town FC forum (Yes, they have one...) It was one of the biggest games of their history so I am sure someone will confirm the actual playing XI as opposed to the programme. I've added the first names if it helps - what is remarkable about that team ...

Re: Stat Help Wanted from any wrinklies out there ..

My great-grandad played for Wisbech Town in the 1930's, and by the time of the Reading game was still involved with the club as a board member, and my grandfather, now 92, went to that game, but try as I might, I can't find the programme he gave me years ago, probably buried somewhere deep in the lo...
