Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

He also came in as part of Jose’s management team early this year with a particular emphasis on looking at the opposition and helping set up Reading to be effective on the day and this was generally successful so he has some nous about him I'm sorry, but how was this generally successful? Surely if...

Old Man Andrews Ian Holloway confirms on TalkSport he went for the job.

Could have been a lot worse then!

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

I seem to remember when BM MK1 took over we put a 10 straight win run together didn't we? Winless in his first 5 then went on a run of 8 wins in 9 in the league but knocked Liverpool out of the cup during the rocky start in the league. Ah, cheers......Well if he can achieve that Ill be happy..........

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

Old Man Andrews Ex-Wales teammates Danny Gabbidon and Dave Edwards are sticking the boot in to Bowen on Twitter.

Not really sticking the boot in more having a laugh about it but hey ho.

Re: Next Manager

I like the narrative, but the gap is around who judged him to be a good appointment. Who at "the Club" did he impress? Howe is a businessman, as are Joorabchian and the Dai's. We had somebody from a footballing background to assess candidates and it was Bowen, but he can't objectively ass...

Re: Next Manager

Or that following the shoddy process of hiring Gomes, the club decided to get some form of succession planning in place so brought Bowen in as a consultant initially to see how he works - they liked what they saw so created a new role for him to have more of a say in transfer dealings and all footb...

Re: Next Manager

If it tells one thing, it's how unattractive we are to good experienced managers. Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

Seems a short sighted move to me. An appointment that smacks of knee jerk reaction. Please give an example of an appointment that would have not smacked of knee jerk? Most people on here always ask for 2 things when we change manager - consistancy and a speedy process. This appointment delivers the...

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

tidus_mi2 On the face of it, looks a terrible appointment and if I had my tin hat on, it ends up looking like he was brought in over Gomes's head and they've been building up to Bowen replacing him.

Of course I'll be a hypocrite and chant his name if things go well.

Succession planning?

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

boycey Sweet baby Jesus

Bring back Jose , he was so handsome

We've had most of our success in recent years under hair-challenged managers, so from that angle alone this move is a big plus.

Re: Next Manager

yes, the tears over Gomes are a bit pathetic. I know he was a nice guy, but very little justification to keep him on He didn't f*cking fail! He wasn't given a chance to fail because the out of touch with reality 'instant success' brigade, and that includes the owners, pushed him out. Gomes' record,...

Re: Next Manager

If Bowen is appointed it's a complete and utter effing joke. The guy has been a serial failure as Assistant Manager to his mate Mark Hughes. Furthermore, as Sporting Director IMO he's every bit as much to blame for the poor start to the season as Gomes and his coaching team. He then compounds that ...

Re: Next Manager

Must admit it is impressive that this likely appointment is going to piss off a lot of people who feel into 2 camps:

1. Those that want continuity - what offers more continuity that giving the job to the man brought in to work with the deaparted manager
2. Those that wanted something very different.

Re: Next Manager

Apparently he interviewed well at Swansea last year but they, understandably, went for Potter. If this was an external appointment, I think there would be more understanding. An experienced, highly rated coach who is looking at moving into management. A risky move but potentially an ambitious one t...

Re: Next Manager

You lot are unbelievable. Give the guy a chance. Beat Preston on Saturday. Top six by Christmas. Uuuuurrrrrzzzzzz ! Yep totally gets my support if named. Could be argued this is very much a "Reading Way" appointment. Get rid of a manager that isn't working and replace him with somebody el...

Re: Next Manager

slightly surprised that Daniel Stendel hasn't got more of a mention actually. Would seemingly fit the bill fairly well - being available, good career record so far, but not being a massive shift from the Gomes type model Just don't see the club replacing a manager who they fired for having us in th...
