Re: RUMOUR - James Kay

Not sure why a Makelele - type would be known as a wonderkid.
You don't normally call defensive midfielders (or centre backs) "wonderkids". That term is usually used for "flair" players.

Re: Danny Williams

I'm very disappointed in Williams. Seeing him at the start of the season I thought we had an energetic, hard-tackling midfielder who likes to run at players similar to a Steve Sidwell but ever since that promising start I feel , at the end of a game, what did he do? Rather than a Steve Sidwell he h...

Re: Buyout

From all of the above we might infer that "Others" - possibly STAR, own 0.7% of the football club.
If TSI (Anton) owns 51% and RFC Holdings owns 49%, RFC holdings being 98.5% SJM and 1.5% others, then SJM owns 48.27% of the football club and others own 0.73%.

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2013/14

Son of club employee signs professional contract. What a happy coincidence :!: He's decent mate, seen him a few times. Difficult to judge how he'll come on in years to come but it's on merit. Many years ago there were those who initially wondered whether Neil Webb might be experiencing some favouri...

Many thanks. Saw him make his debut when he was very young but his career didn't come to much after that.

Re: Who was Reading's best ever header of the ball?

Cripple Creek Hughie Cheetham, third from right bottom row. I think he came from Crewe - wasn't he one of our record signings at one stage?

That is not Hugh Cheetham - that is Dick Habbin.

The one I don't recognise is in between Dennis Butler and Bob Lenarduzzi in the middle row. Anyone know who it is?

Re: Who was Reading's best ever header of the ball?

In my time watching Reading, I would sat definitely Pat Terry. http://mobile.readingfc.co.uk/cms_images/royalweek0400-1076522.jpg He scored so many of his goals with his head that he used to say they counted double when he scored with his feet. If my father was still alive, he would undoubtedly hav...

Away to Brentford, Boxing Day (or thereabouts) 1975. Bruce Stuckey, direct from a corner, with moments left. Saved the game for us at 2-2. We were 2-0 down with 15 minutes left.

Re: Rumour - Dan Gosling

Desperately need a striker. Seriously need CB cover. Are in need of a AM. If we bring in those 3 on loan I'd be happy enough until Jan when we buy. This, and I would assume that these are the positions Nigel was referring to when he said he hoped to get 3 in, as he would have known that Mariappa wa...

Re: Squad review now transfer window has closed

We definitely need a centre back now, of 1st team quality. I'm just about OK with Gorkss as 4th choice, but no higher than that. I don't buy the argument that we could always recall Hector. We need someone at least as good as Morrison / Pearce now. We need a central attacking midfielder - a Sig type...

Re: Rumour - Roberts to Swindon as player / coach

More to the point: - I wonder what the clause in his contract was that said he could invoke another year when we all thought he had finished. I guess we'll never know. I'm not in favour of terminating someone's contract just because they are injured - we should look after them. Equally, I'm not in f...

Re: Nicky Hammond

I do wonder who was responsible for negotiating Jason Roberts' contract from the club's point of view. Roberts was able to activate a clause giving him another year despite hardly playing last season through injury. Obviously we don't know the precise detail of the clause(s) but it does seem like Ro...

No Fixed Abode Another former Reading player Charlie Austin pleading guilty to violent conduct in a Swindon nightclub after being caught taking drugs in the toilets.

He didn't plead guilty but was found guilty (of the violence - not the drugs). He claimed self defence.

Re: SUMMER TRANSFER BUDGET

Reading West It's kind of ironic that it is very likely that Adkins will spend more on the team for the Championship than McD spent on the team for the Premiership :|

You would think so, but with rumours of Chaplow on a "free" perhaps we are still on the "Reading Way".
