Re: 2019/20 Season - How will it end?

You can get extremely lucky with Cups and make it to the final whilst not being particularly good (Wimbledon, Milwall etc) While I agree with your point overall, I can never get why people maintain Wimbledon's win in '88 is one of the biggest cup upsets ever. They finished 7th in the first division...

Re: Players who virtually won us games/promotion/avoided relegation on their own

If you want to talk individual games, I'd probably opt for Steve Francis at Ipswich on the last day on the 86/87 season. We only drew, but that was possibly the best goalkeeping display I've seen. Didn’t Steve win the player of the season that year and he only joined part of the way through 86/87 d...

A valiant mention must go to Kerry Dixon in 82/83.

In a terrible team, he hit 26 goals in 35 games. Had he not missed two months with injury, the odds are Reading would have stayed up.

Re: Any player you recall who virtually beat us on their own.

Jermaine Defoe destroyed us For Bournemouth at the end of the 2001 season, we’ll at least for the first half anyway. It took numerous tactical and positional changes to slow him down a touch. I still laugh at that one, there big away day, and they needed to win to make the play offs, and we managed...

Independent content creators would massively benefit on streaming and video services. There's absolutely tons of copyright abuse stifling creativity there with big rights owners taking revenue from them. Tom Scott has a pretty good video on why copyright law is horrendous given modern technology an...

Re: Finance

Why would someone pay for said album when they could legally stream or download the song for free? The big winners would be the public, who could easily access old music for free without needing to worry about artificial scarcity. They do that already, with spotify. If ever a company was stealing a...

Musicians are highly skilled, often highly qualified, and usually not paid very much. The average income of a professional musician according to the UK Music report was £23k in 2019, against a national average of almost £30k. If a musician usually works in a function band playing covers, but has re...

Re: Dave Kitson`s plan to oust Gordon Taylor

He's done that with plenty of photos of him with white players as well. It was a running gag with him. I'm not saying its big or clever but I'd need something more than that to convince me he's definitely racist. Yep, it's one of those occasions where people choose to interpret something one way, d...

That's not always true and they won't be playing at home or away, they'll be playing at neutral venues Why? Unless the plan is for teams to play once a day for a week, where travelling would be a nightmare, what advantage does it offer? They want to avoid fans gathering outside the stadium How many...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

Neutral venues may be required . Maybe they pick the Championship ground that is around 50/50 distance between the two clubs playing? What am I missing here? Why will neutral venues be required? And why does this seem to only apply to the premier league? I think the logic is that by concentrating g...

Re: Finance

Yeah but come on - to be a champ footballer takes a hell of a lot more effort than a 27k p/a year generally. They are basically employed for the age of 8, deal with all sorts of pressure and disappointments, play in front of 30k knobheads calling your a pcunt and criticising your every move etc Fin...

Re: Old Reading Footage on VHS/film/Youtube

Was there ever any footage of Gilkes' last minute "equaliser" at Bournemouth of the last day of the 93/94 season? The game was shown on Meridian, but they didn't include it in their highlights. Being stood in the end behind the goal, with its terrible view, I think it was months before I f...

Re: Worst Reading Player

Carrico had a poor debut but his performance against Liverpool was top drawer.. He definitely wasn't a bad player, but would be a very strong contender for the worst ever performer based solely on his Reading "career". I'd say he's even worse than Aaron Giammetti, simply because he manage...

What would happen to players 25 and 26 currently contracted to a club ? Would the rule only kick in in 3 years time ? Or would’ve clubs be stuck with paying a player they couldn’t use ? Doesn’t give huge scope for injury cover, presumably you could furlough long term injured ? Would transfers be on...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

Possibly, yes. I just think the really awkward problem comes if they can't restart the season until well into Autumn. Players and managers might not feel comfortable playing a contact sport (obviously they'll have no problem picking up their full salary during that period), even if there are no fans...

Re: Finance

Not every club has sold their ground and training ground to a related party to generate a bit of bogus one off revenue. If the football authorities were smarter they would have based FFP on football trading revenue rather than capital sales. Maybe they'll tighten up those rules next time. Why would...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

When we do get around to a restart here is my suggestion. Finish this seasons fixtures, followed by playoffs (or just promote the top 3/4 teams). Relegation as usual. Four week break before starting 2020/21 season to the following format. Premier league 38 games as usual (no European matches)* Each...
