Re: World Cup 2018

Is that a similar book to "Up Pohnpei" with the two English guys who go out to coach the tiny Pacific island nation? Quite different. It looks into a number of teams in the world near or at the bottom of the world rankings who have slim to no hope of qualifying for the World Cup and follo...

Re: Fifa world rankings

Will Gibraltar get a ranking soon? No, as they are not affliated to FIFA only UEFA. Ah right How do you become Fifa affiliated then? I read about this. I think you need to be a member of the United Nations now to join UEFA, but Gibraltar got in through the back door because their application was su...

Re: England Fans - Euro 2016

Isn't there going to be more teams this time out? 32?

ETA: Sorry, its 24 up from 16 apparently. So almost half of the teams that enter will qualify.

Post World Cup: Depressing Football Facts

- England have not beaten what can sensibly be described as a top class team in a competitive game since 7 June, 2002, when we beat Argentina 1-0 in Sapporo. Over 12 years ago. That's well before both of my children were born. - Just 23% of players in top four Premiership clubs last year were eligib...

Re: The 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil Prediction thread

Hard to see past a South American winner. Argentina have the easiest run to the quarter finals. So Argentina for me. Brazil in the final too. Has a host country ever gone out in the early rounds? You have to go all the way back to 2010 to find an example of this. That was the only time though wasn'...

leww_rfc Chile (It's their continent so can handle the heat, already put on a great performance at Wembley recently. Dark horses for me.)

Look at a map. Chile is far south of most of the World Cup venues. Santiago is pretty cold for most of the year.

Re: Premier League 'B' Teams to join Pyramid?

Stupid idea. All you need to do is cap the number of foreigners ( non English ) in clubs starting 11s to 5 so that means on the field of play there must always be at least 6 English players (the definition of English being, born in England or having an English parent) in any one side. Unfortunately...

Premier League 'B' Teams to join Pyramid?

A somewhat controversial proposal being meted at the FA: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27289819 It is being proposed that the teams could play in a league sandwiched between League Two and the Conference. Another option is to merge League Two and the Conference with the B teams to form two reg...

New York City FC

Manchester City's American sister club, NYCFC, who'll be kicking off in the MLS next year, are asking fans to design a badge for them. Some of these are not bad at all: http://www.mlssoccer.com/sideline/news/article/2014/02/04/new-york-city-fc-ask-fans-create-their-best-club-logo-designs https://pbs...
