Re: Ex Players

Anyone remember Keith Knight? Hero of the golden seasons between 1988-90? Well, his son, Tom, has been selected for the England under 20 rugby team.

Thought you all needed to know.

Re: On this day

Getting on for a quarter of a century ago. Only Reading fans well into their 30s will have any memory of this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwk4Erxrsqs - let's pretend the rest of the day didn't happen.

Re: 29 Years ago today

Final game of the season. Birmingham City 0-1 Reading Michael Gilkes scores late with the most unwanted Reading goal in history. Birmingham denied a play off spot. Anyone else at this game? Genuinely terrifying exprience trying to make it to the station afterwards. Game held up due to 2 mass pitch ...

Ha. The Mersey Clipper? Thats the one missed that i was in the Prenton Arms. Knew it was going to be a good day before the game when the barman in the Prenton Arms, faced with a bar three deep, pointed at thirsty Royals in turn saying "I'm serving you, then you, then you, then you...". An...

26 April 1997 Reading 2 - 0 Oldham "OK, it's a cliche - but Glasgow and Roach are definately ones for the future. They both put in some great touches, some nice passes, and set chances up. Roach took his goal well and was clearly up for getting a second. They both had excellent games - expect ...

Re: Twenty’s Plenty

Where does stooping down to the other clubs level get you? We should be at the forefront of trying to change the ticket pricing and indeed Ipswich gave up cheap tickets this season in direct response for us doing it for them. Just because other clubs are greedy bastards doesn't mean we need to be. ...

Re: Bristol City fan with local info Goodfriday

Pretty sure I've walked from Temple Meads and taken in a pub en route First stop, the historic Seven Stars, 5 mins walk from the station. Arrived there late morning before the game in 2009 with about 20 others off the train. Pub was shut so we knocked on the door, landlord leant out of the upstairs...

Re: On this day

30 March 2002. A beautiful bright, sunny day. And a trip to Ashton Gate.

A 3-3 thriller and total carnage in the packed away end. A proper day out. Was that the day the Queen Mum died as well?

The scariest thing about watching that is that Ian Branfoot was 37 years old when he took over at Reading and 41 when we won the Simod Cup.

The end of March provides a rich seam of On This Day memories. Though you need to be middle-aged to remember this. 31 years ago:

Re: The Non - League thread

Not much shadenfreude on here about our old friends from the Rec staring relegation in the face as they now find themselves 10 points from safety in the National League. Tehy have a couple of 6-pointers coming upp against Borehamwood and Dover with a possible humdinger on the last day at second bott...

I have the video from 93-94 and its still sunny in mid-October, (the 6-4 against Exeter stands out) everyone in baggy shirts and stonewashed jeans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGEyMzXDdks Some lovely highlights from that. The goalkeeper's (Peter Fox?) air kick and knee injury. Quinn's lovely st...

Re: On this day

if you asked me now, I'd recall that the 94/95 season was unremittingly wondrous. The sun shone, we stroked the ball around the lush, green turf at a packed Elm Park and beat all comers. But, no. Apparently some of it was shit. On this day in 1995, we lost 3-0 at home to Barnsley in front of 7000 wh...

Nick Shorey my Lord!
Possibly my favourite ever away day - absolute scenes with some comedic goal-keeping, so bad he was subbed off in the first half

Was that the game where the second keeper went off injured?

It's a far cry from Gordon Neate tearing around Elm Park like a man possessed urgently hammering divots back into the turf.
