Re: Rival Watch

Err, I think most people were underwhelmed but were happy to give him a chance before slagging him off. It was only the usual vocal minority or the Twitter mong collective who crawled out if the woodwork, calling him a snake and coming up with conspiracy theories about how he got the job who were c...

Re: 21 not out

My son was one of the seven-year-olds that was given a shirt by Steve Sidwell that evening. He will be 21 later this week, is now a qualified football coach, working in schools in Sussex and running an under 9s team. It's fair to say he's a bit more talkative than he was when SS gave him the shirt, ...

Re: Opposition fans back from the game

While I do have a lot of time for WBA (nearest ground to my house, PhD students have been fans, Cyrille Regis etc), I can't help but laugh at this slice of history; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqOp0oxkRks Final game of 1990-91 season, branded a toga party a few months earlier by fans who were c...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Wycombe Wanderers (a) sponsored by Lawrie Sanchez

I was there as well. Very cold. Don't recall very much, but I do remember the hospital. I was on one of the coaches - was that the game where one broke down and had to wait on the hard shoulder for a replacement?

Re: Blue-collar streetfood

Got into a queue at the burger van (as well as beef burgers, they were offering ostrich, kangaroo and (IIRC) a Bangkok Bad Boy (which, disappointingly, was a spicy bean burger!). This was roughly halfway between gates 5 and 6. Took 5 minutes to reach the front of the queue and pay, then another 35 ...

Re: RFC to become the 4th...

Will they do the matching caps as well as the knickerbocker shorts? 50% wool as well no doubt. I'd love that first kit to be used again - we could sing, "We've got more hoops than you" when we play QPR. Thanks for the replies. For the 150, I want not just the kit, but the team photo to be...

Re: RFC to become the 4th...

I wonder if we will use a "historical kit" as a number of other clubs have done when reaching milestones? We have a new kit every season, so might as well. I guess it will be the first one, but with a Carabao log on the front http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Reading/Reading.htm Alternative...

RFC to become the 4th...

...oldest club in the League (PL + EFL), following the relegation of Notts County last weekend. Stoke City will become the oldest next season, followed by Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday. Chesterfield's relegation from the EFL a year ago had moved Reading up to 5th (although Chesterfield's...

Re: Rival Watch

Leeds and Derby are serial bottlers. Villa's recent Wembley experiences weren't happy ones.WBA should do it. Although a Villa v Leeds final would be entertaining, if only to hear the Villa fans' reaction to Bamford.

A fine... An interesting penalty for a club so skint that it can't pay its players!

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

Professional football clubs exist for one reason - to play football in front of the public. If a club is unable to play its players, it ceases to be able to fulfil that function and should be closed down. No doubt a Phoenix club would be created and reach the EFL within a decade, but a club that emp...

Re: Medium/long term prospects

Just going off at a slight tangent, I was interested to hear Nigel Howe say (after Monday's game) that the owners want to invest more money, but are prevented from doing so by FFP. We've known for years that FFP is there to ensure that the bigger clubs aren't threatened by massive investments into s...

Dellor's commentary on Rino's goal last night is getting some attention from Zoe Ball and her sports reporter on Radio 2 this morning. Basically, Dellor did exactly what I did, which my wife wasn't slow to point out.

Re: £5 Comic Relief Red Reading Footy shirt

The pink and white Brighton shirts are (I believe) cut differently to suit the female figure. Reading used to sell ladies' shirts, but always in the blue and white hoops (possibly still do).

Re: Halftime entertainment

That "knock the Carabao cans over" thing would work better if it happened where a few more people could see it. Sticking in off the pitch alienates at least half the stadium . I think the raffle thing is covered, tbh. At least they make it clear what the winning ticket number is. I'm not s...

Re: BFTG Forest Home

I was somewhat bemused to see the BBC report describing it as a "turgid" match. We've had two years of turgidity, pal, this was a huge improvement!
Nice to hear Jackie Wilson being played after the game, rather than Steve Wonder!
