1946----2013

It has been some journey but this old timer (coming up to 81) will not be renewing my S/T next season. My pension will be needed for life's essentials and after the Wigan disgrace ( and I'm sorry but that's what it was), I just don't have the incentive to pay to watch disinterested, overpaid players...

Re: READING'S ULTIMATE LEGEND

I remember Maurice Edelston very well. Not only as a footballer but as a tennis player. Captained the Pro Footballers tennis association and also commentated at Wimbledon. He played for Simmonds (the brewers for you younger HobNobbers!) in the Berkshire League at their sports ground off Berkeley Ave...

Re: First Time Visitor

The Oracle is very expensive to park. Cheapest is the Park and Ride from Foster Wheelers (£4.return) Up towards Shinfield off the m4 roundaboutJ11 to B3270. Easy to get back out then on to M4 London bound. So do shopping first. Enjoy the game and, where you sit, you have to shout for (at!!) Reading.

Re: Back from the Game / Pub

Yes it was a Lancaster. We could have used some of its firepower on the pitch yesterday. Thoroughly outclassed by a team who were allowed to show off their skills which, even to the most biased of us, were a delight to watch up close. Was there even a yellow card? More an exhibition match for them m...

Re: When was your first Reading game?

You would be right Far Canal. My first season would have been 1946/7 but for the life of me I can't remember who we played. Would have been 13 then but was allowed to sit on the wall behind the Wantage Road end, one policeman on a chair behind the goal! I also went to Elm Park during the war when th...

Trips down memory lane!! And what a lane.
I have fond memories of Freddie Fisher- possibly because he seemed no bigger than I at the time

Re: Reflections

Great post sir. Brings back so many memories of great players and personalities. Two you didn't include were your own-Edelston &Brice, great servants of the Club and good blokes . Maurice was no mean tennis player either, even commentating at Wimbledon. My first Elm Park experience was an Americ...

Celebrations ruined

Well thank you R.F.C. for ruining our week. Our Golden Wedding anniversary, superb meal out with loads of friends, big home party with even more and then we go on Saturday to one of the worst games that I can remember in all my 60 + years of supporting this Club. And certainly this is my last as I, ...

Re: Police and Steward 'Kettling'

I had finished my input here but have taken offence about Gordon Cummings remarks on responsibility.I probably had more responsibility at 19/20 in live fire situations than many and throughout my 79 years have often had to leave from the front with national recognition. I feel I have enough experien...

Re: Police and Steward 'Kettling'

Probably time to wrap this up. Some interesting points made over security announcements which the Club should take on board. Perhaps the bloke with the hand mike at the start would be better than the incomprehensible chap muffling in his beard. Perhaps they could make use of the video screen as it i...

Cardiff away fans

Is it possible to ask someone from Radio Berks to ask questions as to why Cardiff supporters were allowed preference on leaving the ground last night? Thousands of home supporters were inconvenienced, missed connections, and were treated as though we were the villains. Normally at away games visitin...

Police and Steward 'Kettling'

Can anyone tell me what idiot decided to hold back thousands of Reading supporters, including children and disabled, behind two lines of police vehicles, horses, police and stewards so that the 2000 Cardiff supporters could leave. Only at Reading could someone take a decision of such stupidity. At n...

Parachute Payments

Is it just a rumour that as West Brom. have gone back up that they will not be receiving a parachute payment and that these monies will be distributed to other Clubs of whom Reading is one?

If so then all this talk about not having player investment funds is not entirely true.

Re: Oldest living Reading players?

Oh Dear Far Canal. .I can remember most of those playing. And I think Ronnie Blackman was one of the best with his head. And windmill Walker made Harper's arm waving look like a signpost!!

Great memories to carry forward and some good ones, too, from the present time!!
