Re: £5 Comic Relief Red Reading Footy shirt

For me, it just illustrates how overpriced replica kit is if they can flog them for £5. You would imagine that £5 is incredibly close to the cost price, and putting aside some overheads, it shows what a poor deal a normal shirt is. Even when selling them off "half price", the margin is st...

Was that the game that featured Dylan Kerr leading the singing in the away end?

Re: On this day

Here's a game to make you feel old.

1998 and a 1-0 home defeat to Portsmouth who were managed by Alan Ball, had a 32 year old Martin Allen setting up the goal, which was scored by Adrian Whitbread, who went on the play a couple of seasons at the Madejski in the Pardew years.

21 February 1872 - first ever game Reading 0 Reading Grammar School 0 Fans afterwards may well have said that we needed a goalscorer, with the probable 1-2-10 formation clearly not attacking enough. "There's only two teams in Reading....." "The town is ours, the town is ooooooours. F...

Re: On this day

Today is the 19th anniversary of the famous (?) HNA trip to Sunny Scunny. A gobsmacking 900 fans met at Madejski Stadium in the morning before heading up to Lincolnshire in a convoy of Nobbers to watch a dire team doing it's best to get relegated to Div 4. http://www.royals.org/piccies/scunny.jpg

Re: On this day

Sutekh Is the atmosphere really that much different to QPR or Brentford or Portsmouth or even Brighton?

Oxford away is the only time I've been advised by police to stay inside a pub for my own safety, while they surrounded it with dogs and horses to keep opposing fans at a distance.

Re: On this day

It's Valentine's Day, so who can forget our romantic night out in Swindon in 2002? If memory serves, the game was moved at short notice for coverage on ITV Digital who were rewarded with a 0-0 draw and, happily, went bust pretty quickly after. They placed the temporary TV studio on scaffolding abov...

Had no idea SJM was involved. Disappointing that the video doesn't show the reveal after which derision poured down from the Southbank in a way only the Southbank could do.

gr8 finish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbmCnFElD2c You know how nostalgia tricks you into thinking entire seasons were end-to-end, thrill a minute goal fests? Well, that Derby game was absolute shite. The highlight was Uri Geller's half time entertainment. Anyone remember the coloured card mind...

Lewis Ward made his debut for Forest Green Rovers last night after FGR first choice keeper James Montgomery was taken to hospital after having several teeth knocked out  Sounds like Ward had a good game and Montgomery may be out for a little while, so possibly further games to come. https://w...

From Despair To Where? Ah, memories. The prematch stroll down an unfinished dual carriageway followed by a climb up the Ibrox steps.

Not as much fun going up and they were going down after 20000 people piled out at the same time.

Re: On this day

Loads of games on 17th of January over the years. The highlight has to be a 2-0 win at the Co*nty Ground, though. Swindle, remarkably, managing to be worse that one of the worst Reading teams in a generation.

Re: 20 Years Ago Today (16/1/99).........

Left at 4-0. Clearly remember vowing never to return to the Madejski. I hated the whole thing. Six months earlier my match day routine involved Spread Eagle, stroll round to the Southbank, find the usual spot under the clock and enjoy 90 mins of ineptitude. Here we still had the ineptitude, but ther...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

Disagree completely. Went there for the pre-season friendly in 2008 and found the supporters and ground to be excellent. I'd be surprised is Forest Green were promoted too, they're not that good. Depends where you are, I guess. The old away end, behind the goal, is terrific. But last season they mo...

Bolton screwing up still https://www.facebook.com/222595381410455/posts/757996314537023/ The poor bloke had just bought a house in the Bolton area as well  Does he have any legal recourse on this? He is financially out of pocket due to Bolton being Bolton. Forest Green should almost certainly...

Silver seating - can't see the nearest goal at all
Gold seating - can see the top of the crossbar on the nearest goal.

I generally love old skool grounds, but Loftus Road achieves the remarkable feat of being both old skool, bland, tepid and generally shit.

No trains running to/from London Bridge. Are you up for walking from Canada Wharf? Might need a minder or two. Canada Water to The Den is about a mile. Takes about 20 mins to walk. The whole area has had money hurled at it, so minders unnecessary (Millwall has always been one of the least threateni...
