Re: Ipswich (A)

In order to obtain the discounted fare, Network Railcard holders will need to buy minimum two sets of tickets from their starting point to Manningtree (easterly edge of the NWRC zone) and then from Manningtree to Ipswich. You'll save yourself about £20 on an off-peak day return that way. But then, i...

Re: Best goal scored at the Mad Stad

Also, pre-Mad Stad there was a brilliant free kick routine that happened quite often where 3 players would stand around, one would run up to kick the ball and dummy it, the next one would do the same - then pretend to argue about which one of them should have kicked it, meanwhile the 3rd player tak...

Re: Best goal scored at the Mad Stad

At risk of being a heathen, I've never found Lita's overhead that "spectacular". Stood still, 4 yards out, relatively easy vs a lots more of the goals mentioned. Stood still? Watch the goal again, and just keep your eyes on Lita. Constantly on his toes on the move, anticipated a knock dow...

Re: Best goal scored at the Mad Stad

What is the criteria for "best"? Team move? Individual brilliance? Most spectacular? Whack it as hard and spectacularly as you can? Longest run with the ball? Most incisive counter attack? Here's one for each category:- Team move - Arsenal's 3rd against us in 06/07, scored by Robin van Per...

Re: List of postponed matches from over the years

I really can't remember when these were, but I've been on my way to games at Palace and QPR when have been postponed. Both within a month or so of each other, 96/97. QPR was postponed about 20 minutes from kick off, Palace around an hour. I made it to Shepherds Bush Market and Thornton Heath before...

Re: Worst ever Reading Player

Given the title of the thread, literally nobody within the last 15-20 years should get a mention. They are coached to a ridiculous level nowadays that p*sses all over the level of coaching the standard D3/D4 player got pre-PL. You'd need to go back to probably the 1970's D4 days to get the worst eve...

Re: Jaap's Radio Comments

I didn't boo. I sat there relatively ambivalent at a desperately insipid showing but refused to boo because I wanted to see exactly what Stam was doing with the Ilori/Kelly substitution. 4-2-3-1 became 3-4-3, immediately more attacking with Gunter at RWB, with JDB coming on for Gunter with McCleary ...

Nice one Seahawk. I didn't even realise this was a thing, certainly not the sort of thing I'd expect Stateside with what feels like a closed shop approach to top level sport.

Re: BFTG - Villa

Lots of Villa fans on the bus last night with distinctly un-brummie accents, for what it's worth Little question from last night fact fans, our goal was given by the goal decision system, as this is the first season the EFL has had the system is there a chance this was the first EFL goal given by t...

Re: Last 100 players on loan

Interesting how we've never loaned a player whilst in the Premier League. Apart from Peter Mate and Aleksandar Gogic but then it is correct to say Reading have never fielded a loan player in a game in the top division. Andre Bikey was on loan for the entirety of 2006/07, before signing permanently.

Re: Safe standing progress

I believe the rule is that a club promoted into the relevant tiers has a fixed period of time to meet the all seater rule (EFL membership criteria state it must happen by the start of the club's 4th season in the champ.) It's likely that where a club has a new ground on the horizon then they might ...

Re: Safe standing progress

This was discussed after I personally raised it with the club at the Supporter's Focus Group about 18 months ago. The club actively support safe standing, but the stadium would require significant structural work to be able to accommodate it. Also (bearing in mind this was discussed under previous o...

Re: VAR

I absolutely agree we need to extract a culture shift, but my emphasis would not be on the respect angle as if the correct decisions are made with all of the assistance, then respect can only increase. What I feel we need to move away from is the traditionalist view, the "why meddle with it, it...

All well and good arguing and listing the cultural virtues of our beloved town, but from a football awayday perspective the Madejski undoubtedly ranks up there with Coventry and MK Dons as the worst in the country unfortunately.

Re: EFL Cup Draw - Who do you want?

Didn't we lose 1-0 in game at the Madejski? Vincent Samways with a cultured left-footed free kick? (Peter Whittingham-esque in many respects, you could say). October 2003, Reading 0-1 Walsall, Steve Coppell's first defeat as Reading manager. We beat Gillingham 2-1 in his first match in charge a wee...

Re: More possible FIFA fiddling to ruin the game

Passing the ball to yourself at a free-kick is bullshit. Not least because you'll immediately get in a mess with the 10 yard rule for defending. That a dead ball has to be passed to another player is a pretty fundamental part of the game and not one I'd like to see change. Fair enough but I think i...

Re: EFL Cup Draw - Who do you want?

Reading have recovered fairly well since then though and not lost any of the 13 games played against Gillingham since that defeat. Not quite right. The record since then is excellent, but it's one defeat in 13 since, the defeat coming on 1 April 1999, Gillingham 2-1 Reading at Priestfield (Carl Asa...
