Quiz: Every Reading player ever

by Clyde1998 » 10 Nov 2025 16:08

Using the Heritage Numbers list, I've put together a quiz where you have to name every player who's played for Reading: link.

I can't imagine anyone will get all 1,507 players (especially as the maximum time I could provide was an hour). Would be interesting to see how well people do with this though.

I stopped after it said that Senior wasn't a correct answer

Although, weirdly, if you type Trevor it picks it up.

Good spot. That should be corrected now.

The automatic name tool the site picked up 'Senior' as something to be ignored as not part of the name directly - similar to Junior.

If anyone spots any other issues, please point them out. I think I've already found most of the recent players who would've had issues like this.

Dariusz Wdowczyk

Got over 300 in an hour, my stumbling block was trying to work out how the hell you spell Tomasz Czywka and what idiot version the system has as the name for our famous Bulgarian international ‘cos it sure isn’t his proper name (Borislav Mihaylov).

Not “cheating” by using one of the many tomes or web pages there are about I was quite proud of getting a couple of the more obscure names in Ernie Yard and Paul Lemon. Anyone got those that are even more obscurerer.

Oh and it didn’t like Bert Eggo at all :?

Spent the first minute or so putting in common names (Smith, Jones etc) and got to almost 100.

Williams would bag you a decent handful as well.

Similarly, if you're going for Uwe Hartenberger, you get bonuses Harts and Hartes (see also Kerry Dixon and Dominic Samuel)

NB Tom Dollery - one single game for us in the 1930s. Better known as a cricket County Championship winning captain of Warwickshire CCC. Have that one on me.

Funnily enough this ties into a thought I had whilst watching the Stevenage game the other night - how many Williams we have had play for the club and is that the most commonly represented surname?

Any quiz where you can just type in two generic surnames and get 27 players isn't one for me.
