Tony Le Mesmer Royals Gems 1991/92

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... R0MHiyoMsn

I have been building up an archive on the channel, putting together playlists for each season in the later Elm Park era. You can visit for a browse here

Thank you Tony some great stuff there. Some brilliant skills from Gilles in those clips he really should have played at a higher level, he had it all. I have to admit the late eighties early nineties was the only time I really fell out of love with Reading FC. Once McGhee started to work his magic I went to a lot of those games at the tail end of the 92/93 season I particularly remember the 1-0 win over Port Vale was a cracking game. And going mental when Hopkins scored with that late header. Thanks

Hello, new member here, though I've been a loyal Royal since the mid 1970s. Apologies if this already posted. Does anyone have a recording of the Southern TV Sunday afternoon highlights of Reading v Northampton Town from Sat 24 Feb 1979. We thrashed the Cobblers 5-1.

tmesis Was there ever any footage of Gilkes' last minute "equaliser" at Bournemouth of the last day of the 93/94 season?

The game was shown on Meridian, but they didn't include it in their highlights. Being stood in the end behind the goal, with its terrible view, I think it was months before I found out why the goal wasn't allowed.

Ive never seen any footage. That along with last day games at Chesterfield (89) and Birmingham (90) ive been looking for for years.

Complete mystery why the ref ever allowed that game to start.

That was the first game I took my nephew to. The second was a 2-1 home defeat to Oxford at the Mad Stad when Jamie Lambert scored for the Pox. I gave up taking him after that.

Never seen Elm Park that sodden. We stood at the back of the South Bank under the clock and the rain was running down the steps lapping over the soles of my shoes. Iirc the rain only really started just before KO but it was torrential for about 30 mins, so I have some sympathy for the ref.

Afterwards we walked around the Tilehurst End to go back to the Spread Eagle and Madejski and one of the directors we’re both stood in the corner with a small group of fans surrounding them asking about refunds etc. Madejski said “This has never happened before. We couldn’t prepare for this” and a fan shot back “You’ve never had a fire, but you still have extinguishers”. At which point SJM made a swift exit.

Bury manager Stan Ternant weren’t happy was he?

Symbolically, he walked in and around the pitch, picking at it with a spade just before the rematch kick off.

The following appeared earlier today:

Supporter appeal – do you have old Reading recordings?

https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2020/m ... ecordings/

What we want to gather
Live games
Full or part-recordings of our live broadcast matches – our first full domestic live fixture was against Birmingham City in the FA Cup in 1992 on Sky Sports
Off-air recordings
Matches that were recorded for sale on video (not for TV broadcast)
News match highlights
Recordings of snippets on news footage, from the likes of BBC, Southern television, TVS and Meridian
Other televised features
Anything else that might be of value – such as news features or interviews around our most important matches
Fan-created videos
Even back in the 1960s fans had cine cameras. Maybe you took footage inside or outside the ground, perhaps of your child being a mascot or general crowd scenes?

Please email media@readingfc.co.uk to get in touch - we would love to hear from you about what kind of footage you have!

Just thinking that there must be people somewhere who faithfully recorded game highlights from TVS and the BBC onto VHS every week.

And although the above is from the club, how long does it retain match day footage?

Hello,

As you can see I'm new on site, but been a lifetime supporter. First game was at home to Bournemouth; a dour goalless draw in January 1978, but stuck with it! I remember watching Southern Television extended highlights against Northampton Town wef 24 February 1979. We won 5-1 against a Division four promotion rival. Does anyone have a link anywhere?

I've just emailed the club with a list of home games from the 1970's & 1980's which I remember had local TV cameras present (they used to set up in the South Bank)....not seen them emerge on utube so hopefully these can be resurrected if someone there has good media contacts.

For the record YouTube appears to have the season highlights for all Reading seasons from 2001/2002 to 2017/2018 except for seasons 08/09, 09/10 and 10/11

This might be here already, but here's Steve Archibald's one game for Reading, v Huddersfield in 1992. He would have scored, had Trevor Senior not poked it over the line from about an inch out. Also, a Huddersfield player falls over taking a corner.

Archibald completely missed the ball. Not clear on that footage but remember being stood in lone with it. Initial header hit the post, Archibald couldn't sort his feet out quick enough and ended up pretty much jumping over the ball. Senior was behind him to smash it in from a yard out.
