Brian Bromley with a shot from the edge of the area through a crowd of players in a 3-0 cup win against Slough, November 1973. The second goal from a very young Steve Hetzke. Enjoyed the afternoon but disappointed there wasn't a commentary and I longed for action replays.

Barry Wagstaff v Barrow I think.

Rudolph Hucker It was against Doncaster at Elm Park in the 78-79 promotion season. Always thought it was Ollie Kearns but having read the earlier post concerning this match might have to concede that it was Richie Bowman. If I remember correctly five members of that team scored double figures that season and the back four and keeper were all ever present. What a season - been hooked ever since...........

How amazing that was both our first game. I remember the goals well Bowman scored a side footer from about 12 yards after a cross from the left. Kearns scored two in the second half a left foot volley and a pen although I can't remember what the pen was for. A couple of other things I remember from that game.
Maurice Evans recieved his big bottle of Whisky for div 4 manager of the month for August. Dick Habbin ex Royal played for Doncaster. And the goals were filmed for BBC south and shown on tv the following Monday. Which makes me wonder if in the dark vaults of BBC South are the goals from the first game I went to.

First started going in '86-87 but the first goal memory was circa 1990 with Steve Moran scoring against someone. God knows who so can't really count that.

Therefore, it'd have to be Trevor Senior against Huddersfield in 1991 when we got a 1-0 win. TV interference kit and one of the Huddersfield players tripped on the slightly raised Elm Park turf as he went to take a corner down in the Tilehurst End / "seats" corner.

Mark White v Tranmere in 83/84.

About 10 minutes to go, free kick just outside the area, slightly right of centre.

Hampshire Royal I saw my first League game in 1967/68. We beat Stockport 3-0, though I can't remember the scorers. I've got a feeling they were John Sainty, Ernie Yard and George Harris, but can't really remember. I'd seen Reading play against Brentford in a pre-season friendly competition a few weeks before, but can't remember the score, let alone the scorers!

Just checked it out for you HR.
It was the first game of the season and John Sainty scored 2 with the late great Denis Allen getting the other one.
You mentioned George Harris and no doubt you will be glad to know that he is alive and well and did the half-time draw at the Millwall game a couple of weeks ago.

Where did you find the information? I thought Harris was a real star!!

Harris was a star-he was a good header of a ball for a winger and scored a load of goals at the far post.
The info comes from the excellent book "Heaven on Earth" written by my old mate Alan Sedunary published by Yore Publications, printed by Cromwell Press and has ref.no.ISBN 1 874427 798

Left-footed (natch) volley at the Tilehurst End. Big crowd that night as City were managed at the time by old EP favourite Jimmy Wheeler.

Jimmy Quinn vs Northampton League Cup 93/94 (Unsurprisingly considering the season he had).
