Svlad Cjelli We really should have stopped watching football then - things were never going to get any better.

Finch Royal did exactly that.

It was a superb day and so fortunate to have been there to witness it.

It also prompted (in my opinion) the best thread ever on Hob Nob which made reference to all the friends and family members who had been loyal Reading supporters, but never lived to see the day they dreamed of - Reading promoted to the top division. Very sad emotional reading on from a very happy emotional day.

Heard Ashes by Embrace on the radio the other day and it put me in a really good mood. That song always reminds me of that season.

Wish we still played it before games :(

I concur. A very touching thread indeed.

I still get an andrenaline rush when I remember that day at Leicester, and my throat tightens a little. My only regret is that I didn't venture out into town after we got back.

It seems too obvious to say it but that was the best away day I've ever experienced. From the drive to Leicester and waiting outside the ground and talking with our supporters to getting inside the ground early, there being a loud expectant away following, and even the gentle taunts from the home fans on how "you're going up, you're down, you're going up, you're going down..."

In the end the draw didn't matter, we were up anyway, and we all went mental. I don't care to admit I filled up and could hardly sing for a moment. I was so proud of my little club proving the bigger boys wrong, realising a dream that I'd always been told my uncles and my old man that we would never see our club in the top flight, and here we were, celebrating just that.

I drove home after that game singing at the top of my voice to almost everything on the radio (after the post match chitta chatta finished, slapping my thighs as I drove. Best feeling ever.

I just hope we get more days like that in my life time.

I'd have been one or two rows behind you at Leicester. That vid really makes you choke. Great memories!

The Derby game you've caught my Dad on there just before the pitch invasion.

I was interviewed outside the ground by South Today for my reaction and said "It has to be the best day of my life". I then thought what an idiot it's just football how can Reading being promoted to the top flight be the best day in my life? But looking back I reckon it just might have been........... :D

A superb day and only 5 minutes to the Walkers for me.

Great response from the Leicester fans, from singing ' you'll only get 10 points ' to joining in our celebrations with us after the game.

Never forget how it felt like the whole structure of that part of the stand was moving as we were bouncing up and down.

The stewards were superb and just pretty much allowed everyone to do as they wished. Having been to Leicester a few times, they have always been pretty good there.
It seemed as if the whole club had set the day up ready to help us with our celebrations, not sure that we would have done the same!

5 years ago, WOW, certainly ready for another day like that!

Completely agreed about that thread. The first time I read it it really left me with a lump in my throat.

Is it still around - should be in the HOF.

If you look at the footage of Coppell throwing his jacket in the crowd, there's a chap who gets shoved onto the running track and gets hauled out of the ground by stewards. I understand he gave his name as "Gary Lineker".

Kitson12
BR2 That season looks more and more special as time goes on whereas when it happened we kinda took promotion for granted as early as February.

The good thing is Coppell and the players didn't.

I seem to recall Gordons Cumming spent most of that season saying Leeds could still catch us!
