You can also describe Doyle as all those things at this level and more. And he's repeated that at least once at a higher level.

Doyle's Premiership Goal-Scoring isn't exceptional

Doyle

Premiership (RFC & Wolves)

122 (11) = 124 x 90 = 33 Goals Strike Rate a goal every 3.76 Games

In Appearance terms, Doyle scores once every four appearances in the Prem.

He had one very good year with Reading,
but since then has managed 20 Premiership Goals in 92 (03), a goal every 4.6 Starts

28 (04) 13 Goals. A Goal every 2.2 Games Reading 2006-7
34 (02) 06 Goals. A Goal every 5.7 Games Reading 2007-8
33 (01) 09 Goals. A Goal every 3.7 Games Wolves 2009-10
25 (00) 05 Goals. A Goal every 5.0 Games Wolves 2010-11

But he's at Wolves, who are cack. And he seems to be used as a channel rather than out and out goalscorer.

I'm responding to the statement,

"You can also describe Doyle as all those things at this level and more. And he's repeated that at least once at a higher level."

13 Goals, once, in a team that came 8th. Three seasons since with 6-9-5.

Ian said that Doyle had done it once at Prem level.

Football has changed, once most teams had a 20 a season scorer, if wolves go down Doyle will be back in the Prem next season IMHO, and will sell for more than what we will get for Long if we do not go up.

Harper - you could be right but its a striker that McD has been after for a while and a derisory offer was made previously for him....thats the term that Barry Fry used anyway !......I guess it will depend on what we got for Long and if Pboro get promoted also ......it will be a sign of the chairmans ambition anyway !

The value has already been set by Peterborough - £2m plus £1m of add-ons. That came from the mouth of Darragh MacAnthony, the Peterborough chairman.

I think we should swap Long for Mackail-Smith, possible giving Posh c. 500k extra

Victor Meldrew
Royal Rother Plenty of times the excuse was made for Doyle when he wasn't scoring that he was playing whilst not fully fit; it seems accepted that Long has been playing with injuries, niggles and strains during the last few months yet it hasn't stopped him scoring, and, even with these knocks, I'd still back Long to beat a fully fit Doyle over any sprint distance.

Shane has had a great half-season in the Championship as have Graham at Watford,Morison at Millwall and Holt at Norwich plus Boothroyd before his injuries but IMHO none are worth more than £3million.

Are you serious :|

Every top flight club is scouring the league below for those ready to make that step up and any strikers deemed good enough to play where a relegated team can get £30m+ in TV money will be worth an absolute minimum of twice your figure.

Surely the price we got for Siggy should put things into some kind of context for you.

Right now, Long's form places him at or very near the top of a select short list.

Long >> Mackail-Smith

Can't see Mackail Smith going to championship side next season UNLESS Posh stay down

27 years old and 10 goals in 43 games in his only season in the Championship. I don't think Maguire was being entirely serious there.

Precisely, in his two championship seasons Doyle got 15+ goals both times. One of them being his first season in football at a decent level. He also got 10+ in the Premier League.

He may have had a few seasons of scoring less, in the Premier League, but that's generally been in teams struggling to create chances and in trouble.

This season Forty-Two players have scored more Premiership goals than Doyle.

How come the new order didn't affect them?

I like Doyle the man and Doyle the player and
I'd love to see him back at RFC partnering Shane
but he's not a god.

He got 18 Championship goals in a FANTASTIC, record-breaking team that got 106 points and scored 107 goals, a team playing so well that Kitson managed 22 goals, Doyle 19, Lita 15, Sidwell 10, and there were two more players with 7. Shane himself got 4 goals in just 565 minutes. It was an utterly exceptional year.

Doyle and RFC lived off the momentum of that year in the Prem, and 13 goals was very decent but not exceptional.

The following season reality set in and Doyle managed only 6 goals.

Doyle's second "18" was in a side with many Premiership players, one trying to bounce back, a side that could have got automatic, last game. Again, IMO, an exceptional team.

Sadly, Doyle is now injured, but he was a very, very long way down the list of Premiership scorers. Three seasons now, 6-9-5 Goals

tbf he was playing for a side down the bottom of the league and until this year Shane Long would've been chuffed with 10 in a season.

But you're right, I wasn't being serious.
