Value on Long's Head?

by roadrunner » 02 Apr 2011 18:53

Anything less than £4m will be daylight robbery IMO. Still young and developing, finally proven at this level and it helps to say he has Premiership experience. The greed in me wants £5-6m.

Christ he's scored 22 goals this season, give the guy a break, there is no need to put a contract out on him just because he didn't get a hat-trick. AGAIN.

If Newcastle want him then they can pay 7-9million - considering what they have to play with. 8)

£10m seems reasonable.

Well obviously. However, if we don't go up we have to once again balance the books, and Long is our most valuable asset. We wont be able to turn down offers in excess of £4m this summer.

We WON'T turn down an offer in excess of £4M if we don't go up.

The problem we have with Shane is, come the summer he'll only have 12 months left to run on his contract. If he wants to go, we may be forced into a bid of around £3/4mil, rather than trying to hold out for £5/6mil.

Anyone got any inside knowledge as to which clubs are watching him at present?

I wasn't surprised that, if you believe whats written, that only West Ham made an offer for him in January as his goal-scoring pre December had been mediocre, and scouts at games would have noted how many decent chances he squandered; obviously however, that has all changed since early December, and if we don't go up I can well imagine a host of teams - not least the teams that go up - offering serious money for him.

Value? I'd be surprised that if he were to leave, that it would be for less than £6M, and in the mad market we have for proven strikers, I would suspect that it would be nearer to £10M.

It is fast becoming the kevin Doyle story, Long has in this last week established himself on the international market, the top player for the Republic over their two games witha lot of plaudits saying how very impressive he was, young, still learning must be worth £6m-£7m of any Premier clubs money.

I don't think Celtic can afford him to be honest.

£6M upwards is a fair value for Shane Long.

The premiership clubs with the deeper pockets could stretch their bids to around £10m.

Sir John Madejski is already rubbing his hands and counting the pounds notes into the clubs bank account, let the auction begin come season end.

I would go as far in saying he is better than Doyle.
