Good omens

by Tamworth_Royal » 21 May 2011 23:54

I'm not kidding this actually happened this afternoon.

Now I’m sure most would admit to this, I have collected a load of RFC stuff over the years and during several house moves many times I’ve threatened chuck this and that out but………. Just couldn’t.

This afternoon whilst clearing the damp and smelly number 3 shed in the lower tier garden I proudly announced to er indoors everything goes, old tents, rusty swing ball, etc etc. In this lot was a couple of plastic chests that I couldn’t be arsed to open as everything had to go!

I went down to the local tip and upon chucking the plastic chests into the skips out spilled my Simod cup final programme (Steve Foster, Martin Hicks cup loving) , which I thought was lost yonks ago and the scarf I wore that day.

Now on the day that Luton lost a final, and finding these lost belongings should I wear my Courage Gold shirt to Wembley again? ( Missed 1995 in Spain at time so this shirt has 100% record)

Anyone else have any good omens?

As I posted elsewhere a few weeks ago, I've only seem two League Cup finals live in Wembley in my life. The first was a few months before we won at Wembley in the Simod Cup, and the second was this year. And in both cases, Arsenal were beaten.

All our (3) Wembley appearances have been against clubs that normally wear white shirts and both so far have involved one team scoring four goals.

I have no idea what this means but I'd feel more comfortable if we wore the black and red strip than the hoops, much as it pains the traditionalist in me to say so.

I have been up in the loft today looking for something completely unrelated to football and in my search came across 4 bottles of ' The Royals ' lager which I had forgotten I ever had.

It is the one that was brewed in 1998 to celebrate over 100 years at Elm Park. I'm not so sure of using it as a possible celebration tipple, the best before date is 1st January 2000!

Exactly! Did you get them back?

If so wear the scarf!

If not, it's a bad omen

I have a 8 bottles in the garage. Perhaps I'll crack one open if we win next Monday!

I believe strongly that you don't talk about good omens before the event for fear of jinxing them.

I haven't seen us lose in the Championship this season....or indeed to a Championship team! Of the 12 games I went to, the only defeat I saw was to Man City!

I have never received monetary donations from HNA members in the run up to the playoffs and we have always done badly. I spot a pattern.

So to be different, it would definitely be a good omen to receive such donations this time round as I'm sure you'll agree. If you're true Reading fans and are not plastics you will donate to my Nigerian bank account.

PM me with your bank details please.

Thank you.

yeh omens.......

do I wear the Courage sky blue/white "Patrick" badgeless replica that I was wearing Wembley '88 (that doesn't fit anymore)
the yellow Simod Cup winning replica, that we wore playing in Wembley '88
the Pelada Auto Trader hooped shirt that I wore Wembley '95
or one of the generic recent ones (which could I guess include the 05/06 one)

LOL @ Omens

Omens don't put the bag of air in the onion bag, nor do they stop it from going in.

Sorry Ian, with all due respect, that's a load of bullshit mate.

Omens, superstitions and all that baloney. No way.

Those worried about wearing the '95 shirt, out of fear of a bad omen...

Fear not, it's just a shirt, wear it with PRIDE. I'd wear mine if it still fit me, due to the fact it was my first shirt purchased for myself as a 6 year old, I don't think I'll be fitting into it, although if I could, I wouldn't hesitate... hope to see as many of them as possible.

Let's win in the oxf*rd shirt!

2 world wars, 1 world cup
Drew_3 never mind all that, did you get the scarf and programme back?

Yes both were saved, the scarf is the old dark blue light blue "The Royals" which was washed today and will be making the trip. The Programme is safe and has been read today.
Did you know that the Coventry Semi produced record receipts for the club of £60,217 !!!
Michael Gilkes was Reading's youngest player and because we sold Deano Horrix to Bristol City a couple of weeks before the final, Gilkes played up front and was fantastic that day. Sadly Dean was killed a couple of years later in a car crash.
