Chaney who was the striker we signed from Eastleigh last season?..wasn`t he supposed to be one for the future?
a big step up...part time to Reading

Or a step down, given that he moved from the winning team to the losing one.

Marcus Williams looked tidy? Seriously? He got skinned twice by their winger and at one point managed to trip over the ball with nobody around him!

Of the first half Obita looked good, put in a few great reverse passes; Goddard very composed at right back; Morrison VERY rusty; D'Ath few good touches but lost possession too much and Antonio truly awful, ran the ball out of touch at least twice

Second half, Cameron Edwards was classy, very comfortable on the ball; Gage put himself about; Taylor and Ryan Edwards ran a lot but with one exception (Taylor's assist for the second) didn't really do much with the ball; Williams looked poor and Ugwu missed a one on one but got in good positions.

I appreciate that it's hard for players to make a real impact in 45 minutes but it should be noted that second half, most of the Eastleigh side was made up of trialists. Even so, we looked to play some nice football and generally speaking our boys looked comfortable in possession and came through a decent test

Snowball RB looked OK.

OS has Raymond and Goddard down as the full backs. They're usually central midfielders, though Goddard has played at full back on occasion. They could be useful utility players if Raymond is learning to play full back too (more likely we'll see them play there than in midfield, given the relative strengths of those positions in our first team squad/other reserve players).

I love this comment, see it so often yet all you can think about it is that he tried hard but actually did f*ck all :)

Although the result is not the be all and end all of these matches it was a disappointing afternoon. Our Academy sides usually win these matches although today the team was diluted by splitting it into two sides.

The second half team were superior although playing against an Eastleigh team which had made a lot of substitutions by then. Brett Williams got no service but Bignall and Ugwu looked better than him which is a worry. So is the fact that Morrison faIled to stand out and looked slow and cumbersome.

Obita looked the pick of the first half team whilst Jake Taylor tried to make something happen in the second half. Gage looked half decent but no one looked close to facing a first cless game.

Fair. He broke up play well enough and linked up with Cameron Edwards but always tricky for defensive players to impose themselves in only 45 minutes

Brett Williams' most notable contribution

prood that it's not just little kids who shut their eyes when heading

the clubhouse roof spitfire

1-0 to Reading

a tap-in for 1-1. Good marking.

2-1. More good marking there.

Squeal like a pig!

The crowd are overcome with the excitement of it all

A deflected shot goes wide

not the most pressure ever put on a keeper from the corner

No idea where the ball is, but 1 second later it was in the net for 3-2

A wasted chance goes wide

another wasted chance

and another

Why does anyone give a flying one for pre -season games? All they are about is fitness and getting minutes under the belt to ensure that everyone is ready for 6th August. Commenting on performances and standards is just downright stupid. Oh, I forgot. This is HNA?

Tend to agree that they're mostly about fitness and minutes but if anything these games are the more usefull as it gives the younger players a chance to impress. If they put in a good shift in a friendly like this they might be given a chance against better oppo later in pre-season etc.

Commenting on results is pretty daft, but performances less so, low effort levels aside.

Anyone who went to pre-season games under Brendan could see fairly quickly that we'd pass the ball nicely but have no end product.

This was not a first team friendly though, so any predictions of doom and gloom would be pretty stupid.

This must have been a reeeeeeally bad performance for BMc to be so scathing about a PSF. Worryingly, in that first half Morrison (replacement for Mills) and Williams (replacement for Long) played.
