Reading staged a remarkable late comeback to post a famous win at Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Mathieu Manset scored the winner in the fourth minute of second-half injury time, after Jobi McAnuff and Adam Le Fondre had both found the net for the visitors in the final quarter to lay the foundations for an astonishing victory.

Albert Adomah and Brett Pitman had put the home side two goals to the good after an hour, but the visitors had a lifeline with 17 minutes left through McAnuff.

Two minutes later Le Fondre levelled from close range and a pulsating contest was won with 60 seconds of adding time remaining by Manset's cheeky flick.

Adomah had the ball in the back of the net after three minutes, racing clear of a static Reading backline to slip beneath the onrushing Adam Federici, but the Ghanaian's celebrations were cut short by a hugely debatable offside flag.

But, that aside, the opening 15 minutes lacked culture or quality.

That was until Adomah sprung Reading's lethargic offside trap once again on 23 minutes.

The winger latched on to Brett Pitman's through ball, outsprinted Joseph Mills and beat Federici with a slightly deflected effort.

David James prevented the visitors from immediately finding their way back into the match less than a minute later, saving smartly low to his left from Le Fondre's 15-yard volley.

Another tetchy period followed, before Maynard had a glorious chance to double the hosts' lead on 36 minutes but the forward could only hit the woodwork from 12 yards out, to leave the Robins leading by a single goal at the interval.

Seven minutes after the break, City had another glorious chance to put daylight between themselves and their guests.

A long ball was nodded by Reading defender James Pearce into the path of Maynard, who skipped past Federici but could not collect the ball with the goal gaping.

The Royals cantered down the other end of the pitch and Simon Church saw his header cleared off the line by Ryan McGivern, as the visitors began to find their feet. But out of nowhere find themselves further behind.

Neil Kilkenny's aimless lob forward seemed to be easy for Shaun Cummings to mop up, but he was outpaced by Adomah down the left who cut back for an unmarked Pitman to slot home.

Suddenly City were rampant. Pitman nodded straight at Federici, the Aussie goalkeeper produced top drawer saves to keep out McGivern and Adomah and Pitman struck the bar with a tremendous strike from the edge of the area. It was one-way traffic.

Reading reversed the flow on 73 minutes, when McAnuff fired home from 12 yards after James spilled Jay Tabb's cross.

And they turned the game on its head two minutes later, when James parried Hal Robson-Kanu's effort and Le Fondre followed up to tap home.

Neither side settled for a point, however, and Manset popped up with seconds remaining to tap a sneaky effort past the despairing James from McAnuff's centre to claim all three for the Royals.

Brizzle Evening Post JUST when it seemed things could not get any worse for Bristol City, they suffered a calamitous second-half collapse to gift Reading victory in a dramatic npower Championship contest at Ashton Gate.

Leading comfortably through goals from Albert Adomah and Brett Pitman with 17 minutes to go, the Robins appeared to be on course for a first home win in six attempts this season.

But instead of killing the game dead, they allowed their guard to drop and Reading ruthlessly exploited the gaps in City's defence to score three times and spoil the party atmosphere.

Jobi McAnuff launched the fight-back with a fierce shot from inside the penalty area, striker Adam Le Fondre turned in the equaliser from close-range after a mistake from keeper David James and substitute Mathieu Manset grabbed a last-gasp winner in the fourth minute of added time.

Defeat will be especially hard to take for a City side that dominated the game for long periods. Certainly, manager Keith Millen and his players will feel they should have taken all three points.

Adomah had what appeared a perfectly legitimate goal ruled out for offside in the third minute, strikers Nicky Maynard and Pitman both saw shots come off the crossbar and Royals keeper Adam Federici was in inspired form, pulling off a string of startling saves to keep the visitors in the game.
But there was no excuse for City's late capitulation, the manner of which will serve only to increase the pressure on Millen, who has presided over just one win in nine Championship games.

The night started so well for City, who took the lead on 22 minutes. Adomah ran on to Pitman's astute through ball and held off Royals left-back Joe Mills before rifling a left-footed shot through Federici's upturned hands and into the roof of the net from 10 yards.

City's fragile lead came under threat early in the second half, and on loan defender Ryan McGivern headed a Simon Church effort off the line.

But home fans were celebrating again when goalscorer Adomah, having switched to the left flank, turned provider, cutting the ball back from the byline for Pitman to pounce from close range.

His second goal in as many games was greeted by a wave of relief from jubilant City fans, who finally had something to cheer at Ashton Gate.

Suddenly, it was all City and Federici was called into action twice in quick succession, going full length to turn aside long-range efforts from McGivern and Adomah, while Pitman's shot from the edge of the 18-yard box came back off the bar as City pressed.

However, City were by no means home and dry and Millen's decision to move Pitman into a more withdrawn role offered the visitors crucial encouragement.

Sure enough, the visitors pulled a goal back 17 minutes from the end, James palming a cross from substitute Hal Robson-Kanu into the path of McAnuff, whose finish from 12 yards was emphatic.

Their tails up, Reading poached a second two minutes later, James succeeding only in palming Robson-Kanu's low shot into the path of Le Fondre, who made no mistake from close range.

And worse followed for City in the dying seconds, Manset turning in a cross from the right to heap further pressure on Millen and his players.
