Didn't Bas Savage start on the wing for us and have the only good game of his career?

Remember Marcus playing a blinder and Crespo missing a sitter.

Bas Savage had a good chance really early on - and completely messed it up.

I bet on Chelsea and won about £2. Was that the game where Savage fell over his own feet but still managed to go past his man and get up with the ball?

Marcus had a superb game; pretty well kept them at bay single-handedly. The tinkerman said he was thinking of making an offer for him on the basis of that performance (didn't materialise of course).

We lost 1-0.

Savage met a cross with his shoulder and Neil Sullivan clawed it out of the top corner. Also remember Crespo busting out a bit of skill on the edge of our box and curling a shot against the inside of the post.

We played pretty well and IIRC Lampard looked their best player, despite the talent on show.

I was there for that one, didn't John Mackie absolutely dominate Crespo?

My memory is of Crespo looking every inch the player very much out of Mackie's league. Still maintain to this day that Hernan Crespo is one of the best players I've seen play at the Madejski.

If you mean the time he met a shit cross with his shoulder and it flapped up and caused Neil Sullivan a world of pain, then I'd hardly call it "messing it up a good chance"

TBF - Crespo's movement was awesome. He could time his runs to perfection breaking the offside trap. Only trouble was he timed his runs so well the linesmen got it wrong most of the time when they flagged him offside.

I think Abramovich had just taken over Chelsea and came to the game. We gave a good account of ourselves that night and I think it was also a record gate for the Mad Stad at the time? Strap?
