Back from the game - Millwall (A)

by chilipepper91 » 03 Mar 2012 17:14

6th win in 6, can't complain! But for the first 35 minutes we were pretty poor - Millwall's movement and quick one-two passing didn't really suit our stand-off style. Their goal was extremely well worked, ball in behind the defence and a simple finish.

We started to come back into it, pressured them more and the goal came from HRK - what a finish. Nailed his volley into the top corner. 2nd goal for us was controversial... remember Hull a few weeks back? Well, that's karma right there - Le Fondre clearly offside but didn't interfere with play, Millwall stopped and Roberts ran onto it to square for ALF. Cue pandemonium.

Never really looked like losing after that, Millwall played some absolutely atrocious football including one drop-ball back to the keeper which their right-back managed to tw*t out for a throw-in barely 5 yards from him

MOTM: Karacan, probably. Another solid performance, gave everything and got a standing ovation for his mazy run in the last minute. I thought Tabb looked excellent when he came on at half time, won a few headers  and made a few crunching challenges. Roberts also held the ball up well.

i thought the term 'bigbadwolf' was used based on our huff and puff playing style, and then the team adopted the song. either way, it suits our style and motivates the boys. roll on tuesday.

Just seen the goals, doesn't ALF flick the ball to Roberts before his goal?

Great away day. Played poorly until Alf came on, we started to look more dynamic going forward.

Legs had a stinker.

Hunt is just thick, I like him but Roberts and ALF look like they are reading each others movement

Why only one bar open?

I really need to shave.

Notched up several spotteds (mags, nsml, stuka?, rg, muddyfeet?) without actually approaching anyone.... 8)

An awful first half, bought to life by HRK's superb strike.
We looked lively after ALF came on, but for me man of the match was Jason Roberts, his all round play was excellent.
Fans were as good as I've heard in a long time.

Seen this about 13 times or so this season. By now people realise this is somewhat expected.

Turns away from it and it bounces behind him as the camera's looking. There is no way on earth that goal could have stood if he'd actually touched it. Miles offside.

He was at least 5 yards away from the ball IIRC. Didn't run towards the ball when he realised he was offside but Roberts kept going whilst their defence stopped.

This. Hunt barely touched the ball with his feet while he was on the pitch. Won a few flick ons but not much else. I'd be inclined to start Le Fondre on Tuesday, he links play very well and looked to play the ball on the ground. He and Roberts could form a good partnership.

No unforced changes will be made until we lose, surely?

Cummings in for the injured Connolley and same again for Pompey.

Just got back. Terrible first half - great equaliser though! Second half we had 20 mins or so of running them ragged. Lenny was wound up - I expect he wanted to prove something against Reading but he failed miserably.

Good vocal support from our fans - Millwall fans made me LOL with old men gesturing for a fight when we scored our 2nd!

All in all, we didn't play well at all - but who cares if we still come away with 3 points. Onwards and Upwards lads.

Brilliant away day, one of the most enjoyable atmosphere for a long time.

Won't say too much on the game as I'd spoil my Tilehurst End Match Report (*cough-shameless plug-cough*) But Robson-Kanu's goal in first half injury time could prove to be one of the most crucial of the season. Another dogged win that led to a vital three points c'mon URZZ!
