The race to the prem *official thread* thread

by Archie's penalty » 07 Mar 2012 20:51

West Ham draw at home to Watford. We are now three points off top with a game in hand and two points behind the 'ammers with the same played.

Unbelievable how much we have caught up.

Will we be top in two weeks?

Brighton, Cardiff, West Ham and Saints all drop 2 points.

Nice.

Beat West Ham and otherwise match their results and we finish 2nd.
Beat Saints and win our game in hand, then match their remaining results and we finish 2nd.
Do both, and we win the title again.

I really think we may avoid the Play Offs this season.

Unless someone like Middlesbrough, Birmingham or Blackpool go on an even better run.

Edited for stupidity - thanks winch_

Even better, Saints and West Ham still have to play each other, so one of them will be dropping points. I really think we may avoid the Play Offs this season.

.

I can confirm that this is totally incorrect.

Just reading the West Ham board. So arrogant. They seem to think they have a god given right to walk this league. Really hope its us & Saints that get the top 2 spots.

A great two days for our boys. We ahve a difficult run-in though and I think we need to make the top two soon.

West Ham seem to be dump at home....they have Boro at home at 20th March so hopefully points dropped there.

I agree March is where we need to make our mark. If we can win 6 from the 8, then that is a very good return & sets us up nice for the run-in.

4 wins to go!

I'd rather leave it as long as possible to leap frog from 3rd to 1st. Less chance of popping up into automatic position and then choking into the play offs at the last minute, which could really hurt morale.

Then again, 12 WNGs would be lovely jubbly.

As it stands, we play the following positioned clubs in the respective order

11th, 23rd, 17th, 18th // 5th, 2nd, 10th, 7th // 1st, 21st, 12th, 6th

Breaking it up into three groups of four (stolen idea), average positioning of teams in each group is 17.5, 6 and 10. I'd be looking for maximum points from the first group, seven in the second, and seven in the final group, giving us a total of 26/36 and putting us on on 89 points

Honestly I would love for it to come down to the last game of the season and that is actually when we click and smash Birmingham something like 5-0 just for revenge

I'd rather just win the next 8 games on the trot and Saints/West Ham implode

I'm getting tense...

Without going all Snowball - since the start of Sep we've taken 59 pts from 29 games - absolutely incredible.

Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar
Win 2 1 3 4 3 4 2
Lose 1 0 2 1 1 0 0
Draw 1 4 0 0 0 0 0
Points7 7 9 12 9 12 6
Ppg 1.75 1.4 1.8 2.4 2.25 3 3

Automatic promotion form for well over 4 months now. No reason whatsoever why we can't carry on. If we won 8 from 12, we'd be at least 2nd surely?
