How did it take to the 5th page for someone to mention Bas Savage! For me the worse player we've had in the last 20 years which is all I can comment on.

IIRC Robinson was the catalyst that turned an awful team into an acceptable one. Does not deserve a mention on a thread like this.

And what did Gurney ever do to you?

Chris Casper has to be up there. Chadwick was another ex-United player who struggled to impress.

That being said, Keith Scott or Bas Savage would get my vote.

Sheppard was awful. I remember when we played Palace and they had Nigel Martin in goal. We had Sheppard. It seemed so unfair.

Keith Scott was just a lump.

A bit harsh on Karacan, but Shane Long was and is still class.

Vydra was class, except that he couldn’t finish.

Carrico had a poor debut but his performance against Liverpool was top drawer.

Cywka was more forgettable than anything. Four games at the Madejski that season, scored one goal... against us.

From Despair To Where?
JC
Ashfordroyal Ollie Kearns, without doubt.

Couldn't disagree more. I know he made an arse of himself sometimes but he scored some good goals too. 40 goals in 86 league games says he was no way the worst ever Reading player.

As a callow youth in the mid 80's, without really seeing him play, I thought his goals per game ratio marked him out as a pretty decent player, but the general consensus of more knowledgeable fans was always that he was utter shite.

He was.

SCIAG Carrico had a poor debut but his performance against Liverpool was top drawer..

He definitely wasn't a bad player, but would be a very strong contender for the worst ever performer based solely on his Reading "career".

I'd say he's even worse than Aaron Giammetti, simply because he managed to have such a negative impact. Aaron was terrible. I remember seeing him up at Bradford. He came on as sub and lasted about five minutes. He didn't play badly as such. It was just that somebody passed to him out by the touchline, and he appeared to be looking at friends/family in the stand rather than watching the game, and the ball just rolled past his feet, out for a throw. Unfortunately it was right by the bench, and an angry Mark McGhee held up the sub board there and then, and that was the end of his Reading career, I believe.

For players who played a fair few games, I'd go with Simon Sheppard. I can see the odd reason how he became a pro, as he was a good shot-stopper (there was that game at Leicester where he was immense) but he was just awful at everything else.
