If this does go through then I think it's a clever move by McDermott. McCleary is quick, skillful, and capable of scoring goals. Inconsistent yes; but all flair players are. The way we play we need our wingers to be able to produce a moment of magic. Sadly the ones who do that consistently go for >20m. Hell, Downing was sold for 20m and he's shit. That shows you the going rate for attacking players in this current market.

Particularly enjoy his Van-Basten moment at 3:50.

He's direct, runs at defenders, skillful, is two footed ans scores goals.

On a free who wouldn't want him?

Oh and sorry Camberley Royal.

Seems genuinely two-footed as well.

Sure I saw him on loan at Slough Town in the mid 2000s when Slough were ground sharing with Windsor and Eton. Don't think he was at Slough when Brian McD was manager though, that was a few years before. 9 goals which includes 4 in one very strange game isn't prolific but a good squad player, and on a free well worth a punt.

From the Slough Town website on former players

Garath McCleary
McCleary started his career on schoolboy forms at Oxford United before being released and signing for neighbours Oxford City playing in the same side as former defender Andy Ballard.

Consistent performances which have left opposition teams torn apart have led to a number of established teams watching the player including Reading and making him an instant fans favourite.

Can play either on the left side of midfield or up-front.

Was released from his contract with the club encountering financial difficulties during the 2006-7 season and joined Bromley from where he was signed up by League One side Nottingham Forest.

Statistics
First Appearance: 05-11-2005 vs Hendon
First Goal: 03-12-2005 vs Bromley
Position: Unknown
Total STFC Appearances: 42
Total STFC Goals: 9
Seems like Royals were interested way back then

Holy sh*t he looks good. He's the best of both McAnuff and Kebe, sign him up McD. His style of crossing suits both ALF and Hunt - just putting the ball in early along the floor for them to sniff out.

I was going to post up exactly the same - McAnuff's trickery with Kebe's directness and pace. SIGN HIM UP!

Well done Camberley.
There are so many dickheads on here who want proof or a signed affadavit before believing that a poster is telling the truth and not out for some minor glory.
I feel sorry for them and the people that they mix with who must be a load of liars to create this inherent mistrust.
Once again well done Camberley and I for one am delighted with the signing having said so early on and I feel that the player will be pushing strongly for a starting place ahead of Jimmy and Jobi.
Now we can sell Antonio and/or HRK and everybody is happy.

Barry the bird boggler So is this a new feature of Reading negotiations? Complete them in full view and earshot of the public - but then if make out we're a family club why not goal the whole hog? Perhaps the players will be buying pressies for the fans on their birthdays and at xmas soon.

CamberleyRoyal I can promise you 100% that this is correct! Brian McDermott and the player were sat in the main bar area watching Sky Sports News (Brian even asked the staff to turn the TV over from BBC news) whilst Nicky Hammond and the agent were sat in the Cafe around the corner towards the back (near hotel reception).

I live in Camberley too, what are you wearing?

Oh, and you speak rubbish.

Paul, I think you'll see you're a tad late on this.

Most people have admitted they're wrong and apologised.

Nice obsessive posts though.
