Would like to see Mariappa in for Pearce as he is faster and Pearce is good for heading long balls away... not for chasing down Torres. If McDermott does this we could see Shorey in for Harte as well... doubt it though.
We'll probably see the same side start though, maybe with McCleary starting.

2012 Player of the Year won't be on the bench Wed. That I can guarantee.

He won't, but perhaps he should. Still rate Gorkss ahead of Pearce tbh.

You're right it's not a bad idea.....its not a good one either.

Why would we play a centre back in midfield?

Pearce is faster than Gorks. If you're going to swap out a defender for pace wouldn't that make more sense?

Personally i'd leave defense the way it was, maybe start Cummings if anything. One up front for me though, Jem (if he's fit) and Legs in midfield, Guthrie just in front with, McAnuff and McCleary on the wings and either Pog or Alfie leading the line.

I feel it's only a matter of time before Mariappa takes Pearce's place though.

No shame in shutting up shop & trying to nick a point.

Roberts is still suspended

Fed
Gunter Pearce Gorkss Shorey
McCleary Ledge Jem Guthrie McAnuff
Pog

Subs McCarthy, Cummings, Mariappa, Tabb, HRK, Alf, Hunt

Harte was exposed defensively saturday as we thought he would be and facing up to Chelsea's attack is even more of a threat out wide. If Jem isn't fit, I'd be tempted to play Hunt in the hole between midf and attack as I think defensively he is better than Alf.

I don't expect any changes. Same subs but earlier if no scoring comes our way. McCarthy will be brought on somewhere, Hunt for the lesser performing of Pog and ALF, and Karacan if fit. Possibly Cummings / Mariappa instead if we manage a late lead.

in effect its a 5 man defence with the option of getting his boot in the middle of the park, Jem covers alot of ground but you are not going to see him head the ball away from his own 6 yard line,

I think Hunt will come in for ALF, with us switching to 451 - Pog up top on his own, Hunt on the right and Jobi as an attacking midfielder. Not sure this is what I'd go for myself, but would be my predicted line up (possibly with Hunt and McCleary switched)

This is a possibility but I don't think McDermott will set up to just try and win a point - we'll try and win every game. Still, he was at the Wigan game and for a lot of the match they needed an extra man in the midfield.

Feds

Gunter
Harte
Pearce
Gorkss

Legs
Guthrie
Mcanuff

Mcleary
HRK/Hunt

Pog

4-5-1, bit harsh on Alf but purely tactical. Got a feeling Hunt may play wide. Not too worried about our lack of pace at the back cos i expect us to be defending fairly deep!
