The Gr8 Keeper Deb8

by Dare to Dr£am » 22 Aug 2012 21:49

Feds - 2 games, 2 clangers, and 'that' corner.

He was amazing last season, but consistency temperamental before that.

Taylor signs for the season as cover/competition for Feds.

Stick or Twist? (and provide a good argument for why)

You have to stick for now, but a cat only have so many lives and if the time comes, Brian has to be ruthless and make the change.

I'd stick with him, but wouldn't be devastated if he got an injury during training this week......

It's far too early to drop him. That would be very harsh; but there's no getting away from the fact he's had two very poor games, and as a result his confidence will be rock bottom. What he needs is encouragement, not barracking!

If he has 4 or 5 bad games out of the next handful of fixtures then yes, we need to consider giving Taylor or McCarthy a chance - but not before.

Stick 100%. A key reason we were promoted and will save us on several occasions this season I'm sure too.

Should Chelsea drop Petr Cech? (I don't care either way)

Too early to say - see my comments in the other thread on exactly this subject about the risk of him losing confidence.

Stick, but one more mistake in the next couple of games and you might just have to, for his own sake. Fans are fickle and it wont be long before they turn on him vocally.

stick. we cant get rid of him yet, feds will always be number 1 keeper in my mind. however, if he does continue to make simple mistakes 5 games down the line, we should consider changing keepers.

I'm sure Feds can recover and be the player we saw again last season. What concerns me is the scrutiny we've already seen him under on the BBC and ESPN; he will have his mistakes analysed and, as professional as he tries to be, it could affect him.

1 error is easy to get over; back to back errors could be harder for him to recover from mentally and his confidence will have taken far more of a knock after today.

McD needs to use his man management to keep his confidence up and nurture him back to the excellent keeper we saw last season. He also needs to maintain a close eye and be ruthless if he sees enough evidence to suggest that the PL is giving him the jitters. Not time for that yet I imagine.

He MUST shave his hair. It's no coincidence he had his best season with it shaved.

I'm really unsure about this, I don't blame him for the fourth like some people but the other one was a shocker.

Stick. For one more game only. You can't afford to be sentimental in this league. If your top scorer missed two absolute sitters and cost you two potential goals he would not keep his place. What's the difference?

Stick. He proved last season he was too good for the Championship. Can only assume he's nervous about the Prem or something.

Dropping him now would destroy him.
