Gunter v Cummings

by Royal Ginger » 01 Oct 2012 21:25

Our upturn in form has coincided with Cummings' inclusion in the team over Gunter. (not claiming that the change in RB is the reason)

I'm glad that Cummings has had the chance, and delighted that he's stepped up. I thought the Gunter signing was a great bit of business, but, of the new signings, for me he's been the most disappointing. By no means awful, but not delivering the promise he came with.

Where do we go from here? Is Cummings now to be considered our number 1 right back? Or has this just been a break for Gunter?

I thought Gunter did OK against Stoke, but agreed that Cummings has looked good since he came back in.

Plus we don't get the Shaun Cummings song when Gunter plays .... a personal favourite of mine although the old dear next to me shakes her head and rolls her eyes whenever she hears it.

Cummings keeps the shirt at the moment for me. I'm delighted that he has stepped up too. You've got to admire his attitude and professionalism - being dropped, but clearly working his arse off to try to get back into the team. I was also a bit dissapointed with Gunter - especially his giving the ball away - but I hope and believe that he will come good.

When Gunter signed with McCleary I was really looking forward to having the forest partnership on the right wing, apparently one of the best last year... But Saturday the Kebe-Cummings partnership showed us what we had been missing.

Cummings was great defensively with Kebe tracking back more than McCleary, and going forward they combine so well. Brian would be mad to split them up

We've basically got two decent right wing/fullback partnerships. Good times.

I felt it was quite harsh on cummings not be starting this season as first choice tbh. He looked the part in the champ and there was definitely some quality in his displays that would be good enough for prem level. I hope the lad keeps his place.

As above, I suspect it has more to do with the partnership on the right, than Cummings being dropped for Gunter...

I have always rated Gunter. Now that we have signed him he does not look the player he once was.

He picked up a pre season injury maybe there is still a problem.

Was it Cummings who gave Ferguson all the time in the world to put the cross in for Ba's second?

Best game I've seen Cummings play defending and going forward. Concentration is the next thing to work on. Dosing (not the only one) for the first goal, and should have closed the winger down quicker for their second (GMac too).

SC - remmeber the 4 P's of defending.

I think Cummings has been very good for us for the last two and a bit seasons. However, Brian clearly does not rate him that highly as he has tried to replace him on several occasions - but Cummings just keeps talking the knocks and coming back stronger.

I just don't understand what he has done wrong and why Brian seems to have an issue with him.

In any case to me he looks a far better option than Gunter. One worry is that I think he is out of contract at the end of the season, so could walk away, which would be a shame.

Cummings definetely wins for me. I like them both, but Gunter always seems a too shy to cross the halfway line, and Cummings will take a chance and get forward. vs West Brom one of the reasons we never created anything was cos Gunter would pick up the ball, pass to McCleary, then would just sit back and McCleary would have to pass back or into the middle, slowing the whole "attack" down.

Its a long season my friend, pleased for Cummings but what if he has a stinker
Next game (hopefully not) and Gunter comes in and has a blinder.
What will you say then? It's a long hard season let's not jump to
Conclusions just yet

I know it's probably been said but.... we have to play both at the same time at some point... improve gunters link up play with the wingers and we'll be set to eat french noodles until the daffodils turn red

Maybe what we need is some mixture of their respective skills.
I wonder what you would call a mixture of Cummings and Gunter?
