On a positive note - Uche Ikpeazu

by andrew1957 » 08 Apr 2013 13:10

I am not sure if any of you have seen this but this lad does have the makings of a star. Hope we have him on a long contract.

I have always wondered you know why we sometimes don't throw some of the really good quality players in at a younger age, maybe we just don't want to take the risk and upset their development, but then you look at the likes of Owen, Fowler, Fergie's babes at Man Utd and you think if they're good then they're old enough.

That was a great strike. Maybe when we're mathmatically down, Nige will give some of the younger players a look in. Uche certainly looks a talent.

Thing is, we never get to find out as they're never given a sniff. Did anyone other than Nigel Adkins and his youth coach think Luke Shaw was good enough? Sometimes, you have to take a chance. With our Strikers, he can't do much worse surely?

If anyone other than Brenda had been our Gaffer, do you think Siggy would have got his chance? Pearce, Karacan & Church ( :shock: ) too?

Tbf Pearce and Karacan played when Coppell was manager quite a bit and Church and Sig were given their debuts by him as well.

Yes, but they were bit part players under SSC. Rogers chucked them in at the Deep end.

Problem is, as with all these things, you don't know what Coppell would have done if he'd stayed on. They were obviously in his thoughts otherwise they wouldn't have even got a sniff of the first team when he was here. The groundwork was already there.

Once we're mathematically relegated I'd be fine with Samuel, Ikpeazu, Obita and anyone else deemed good enough getting some minutes.

Ignoring the fact that Coppell gave a few of the youngsters their initial chances (but perhaps not enough), it was Rodgers who introduced Sigurdsson and blooded him into the team. Without his few months of gentle introduction I don't think he'd have been as good when McDermott then built the team round him after he took over.

There's a lot of hype over some of our youngsters but as someone who's seen a fair bit of previous generations, and a little of this one, I'm yet to be convinced that the hype is overly justified. I hope a few of the current crop come through and break into the first team squad, but I won't hold my breath.

Us = nothing
Him = confidence

Why dent the lad by throwing him in when all the cameras/media will be on him.....rather bring him through gently next season when we're not so "in your face"

Very good goal in the video that is embedded in the article. That having been said, it would be nice if our first team no 5 could score a goal or two like Partridge does at 1m16s into the video. That's a no 5 hoofing forward with a great end product!

i've seen Uche play twice, he's got a good eye for goal but seemed completely unable to control the football in any other situation :shock: . Still very raw. Has potential though.
