The change in status has transpired predominantly due to issues experienced during the complex transition of our entire Academy operation from Hogwood Park to the new Bearwood Park facility. Its relocation had to be implemented in staggered phases and then, mid-transition process, the move was dramatically impacted by the global pandemic; at a time when youth football was brought to a sudden halt, our Academy operation was naturally restricted and – as it shared facilities with the first team – a cautious and sensible return to full capacity had to be implemented.

They seem to be blaming the transition and Covid, but Hogwood is long gone and covid restrictions have relaxed. It's like they are creating excuses that would have been valid 2 years ago and applying that for this audit and this seasons status.

There's clearly a bigger story here, my guess is that it's likely one of management incompetence.

Possibly contributory, but inspections and approvals will go in phases, and whilst the actual events may be (mostly) over, the knock on effects in delays and disruption certainly don’t have to be. And the process that led to this change is likely to have happened months ago, possibly many months ago, presumably during the season. Afterall, they can't really revoke Cat 1 status midway through the season as it involves the competitions you play in doesn’t it?

So this could be a decision made based on the state of play in September / October / November.

And the reason we're so confident about it being a one year thing, is we've already fixed (virtually) all the issues since then. But just not soon enough for a reassessment / appeal for this season..

We shall, of course, have to wait and see what happens and if we bounce back as the club seems to hope.

Yeah proof will be in what happens next year

Actually hope there is more to it than that and it means a completely new look at all the age groups and what can be done better. Sounds like there’s a few issues there

Have you heard whether they will still be playing games at the Mad Stad? I think it was a requirement for Cat 1 to play a certain number of games at your main stadium but no idea if it’s the same now we’ve got a season in the lower reaches.

I think all matches are down as SCL stadium but all KO 2pm. Awaiting confirmation about fans allowed in, which i would think yes or they would play them at Bearwood.

Bowen said he thought Samuels would leave for first-team football but there was never any confirmation either way. I guess he must have quietly renewed his contract.

I went to Sandhurst for the "U23" match against Bracknell yesterday. Reading lost 4-2.

Embarrassingly enough, I didn't recognise all the players, but starting line-up included Boyce-Clarke, Craig, Holzman, Jahmari Clarke, plus probably Camara and Abbey. Osorio came on as a second-half sub, as I think did Melvin-Lambert.

Reading started off well, and took the lead with a Clarke tap-in. General view from home fans was that we would walk away with the game, but from about 30 minutes Bracknell came back into it, scoring twice before half-time. It was 3-1 on the hour, but after that Reading began to have a lot more of the ball (Bracknell had made a lot of changes). Near the end it was back to 3-2, but Bracknell scored a fourth from a penalty. Style was a bit different from the youth teams of recent years - still an emphasis on ball retention, but more direct.

Not many Reading fans in evidence. Brian McDermott was there and kindly read out the starting line-up at Blackpool for me. I asked if he was scouting or just watching football, and he said the latter.

And a special thanks to the couple on the door, who let me bring my bike into the ground and padlock it to a floodlight. One of the joys of non-league grounds.

Didn’t Fran Kirby have to train with our (male) U23s?

Back before wimmins football was a decent thing and Reading’s WFC was in its formative days?

The game ends prematurely due to a serious-looking injury to a
@ReadingFC
player.

Our best wishes are with him for a swift recovery.

Doesn't sound good :(

Lansbury booked for a high tackle in the 80th minute
Lansbury subbed off on the 82nd minute
Next report 12 minutes later about the game being called off due to a serious injury to a Reading player.

Now maybe I'm being cynical but sounds like Lansbury has done a shit challenge in a BCD friendly, been subbed off when the kid didn't get up, to get him out of there and then the game was eventually called off.

We will have to wait and see but this doesn’t sound good. Best wishes to the young man in question. We really are cursed.

JLow:

Young centre-back Nelson Abbey was the player who was injured during #readingfc U23s' game at Luton this afternoon, causing the match to finish early. Unclear yet how long he will be out for

Gutted for Abbey - second year in a row he's had a serious injury at the start of the season.

Team as far as I can tell from the photos and news contained Jokull, Abrefa, Holzmann, Abbey, Craig, Osorio, Camara (?back of head) and Ehibhationham.
