Team for Posh

by Ian Royal » 26 Aug 2013 18:36

So, an excellent opportunity to rotate quite a large squad and see what some of the players who haven't been regulars can do / those who haven't quite convinced yet.

................Federici
...Kelly, Mariappa, Gorkss, Cummings
............Akpan, Williams
Robson-Kanu..Taylor..............McAnuff
................Blackman

Taylor, Bridge, Obita, Pogrebnyak, Karacan (Morrison, McCleary)

Taylor and Obita weren't included in the last kiddie game, so I'm guessing they'll feature. But unlikely that Samuel, Ugwu, D'ath etc will, as they did.

That's a pretty strong team we could field with 'reserves'. Although it is somewhat lacking upfront.

I think Taylor did play against Southampton for the U21s

The line-up named Cooper twice (Once in CB and again in midfield) but when I read the report it mentioned Jake Taylor a couple of times.

Federici Kelly Pearce Karacan Hrk Alf Ugwu

Posh are a good side and seem to do well against us so a strong side and hopefully find Blackman some shootijg boots as well as giving a few subs a chance and maybe giving ugwu 20 and the end.

I'm going for Taylor instead of Federici on a complete whim, but I do think Obita will be brought in after his encouraging pre-season. Although's the temptation to play a different formation, I think the 4-5-1 will remain. Le Fondre and Drenthe will be used as impact subs, I don't think Kebe will be fit and Guthrie will be given a complete rest. We don't want him to pick up a string of yellow cards too early on.

If it's only 5 subs instead of 7 - then no Ugwu or Drenthe and Karacan will be the impact sub.

Doesn't matter who we pick, we still don't have an 11 who can all play Adkins tactics! We may win but I bet the scorer will be a midfielder, Back or Youth Player!

I actually think we need to play whatever Adkins thinks is the best XI as they just need to gel at the moment. We've not played many games so no need to rest and rotate...

There's a couple of weeks rest after Yeovil, too.

I think it is good for the players who haven't been that involved to get some game time so they feel like they're part of things (and that especially goes for Obita), but I generally agree with you, we shouldn't play a "weakened" side IMO. We need our players to get to know each other and win matches.

With that in mind, I'd play:
---------------Federici-----------------
Kelly----Morrison--Mariappa--Bridge
--------Guthrie----Williams----------
Kebe----------Obita--------------HRK
---------------Blackman---------------

Subs: Taylor, Pearce, Karacan, Drenthe, Le Fondre, (Gunter, Pogrebnyak)

That includes players who haven't been overly involved whilst not compromising much on quality and would be a realistic starting line up in a league match, barring Obita. If Kebe isn't fit then I'd play McCleary

Got a text from the club yesterday saying Kebe, Ledge and Roberts were still injured and out of the Posh game.

Not that he would come straight back in anyway.

Kelly----Gorkss--Mariappa--Cummings

I only included Blackman because Peterborough are a league 1 team and he might just find his level although they are a top league one side so maybe not... and risking le fondre would be suicidal. Pog destroyed this lot last year, hopefully we will see a repeat.

What we really need, is a manager who knows how to beat the likes of Peterborough with the best squad in the Championship.......................a bloke called Brian springs to mind.
