Barnsley - in the car

by Brum Royal » 01 Oct 2013 22:11

Probably about right in the end. Barnsley had most of the first half and we looked slow and ponderous, almost nervy. Second half started well with the goal, and after that we looked much more confident. Created a couple of chances, ALF should probably have scored when put through, Morrison I think hit the bar with a header from a corner and we looked good. As the half wore on we sat back a little and let Barnsley back in to it, and the goal came from a bit of penalty box pinball and a neat finish.

Guthrie very good second half, looked knackered when he went off. Would perhaps have liked have seen Sharp brought on earlier. Akpan decent when he came on too.

How did you fit Barnsley in your car?

It's easy when there's only 9,000 in attendance

Did we sit back on the 1-0 lead as we did on Saturday?
Possession stats were 59/41 in Barnsley's favour which is unusual for a club at the bottom of the league.
Still , we remain on the unbeaten run and if that is still the case on Saturday it will be a decent first quarter of the season.

We pressed for a good while, then seemed to ease off a bit around the 70-75 mins.

Did you miss the Ch£lsea game..?

Just shy of 400 in midweek with 8 hours of driving to do, yeah that's pretty decent!

ALF's best game from the start today. Worked hard, won a few headers as he wasn't up against man mountains of centre backs, linked well with Pog.

Pog Incidentally was very good tonight. He's a new man since his talks with Adkins and the goals at Derby

I listened to the Barnsley game whilst in the car too.

I agree with everything said so far.

Overall a good draw really away from home against a team really desperate to get a result and get off the relegation zone.

A Reading of old might've completely folded against a 'lesser' side but hopefully Peterborough taught us a lesson. 1-1 away is decent. Good result.

We were poor tbh. Way too direct, and on the few occasions we did look to keep the ball on the floor we were very sloppy. By far Baird's worst game for us, Gunter was careless, and Kelly is a depressingly poor substitute for Bridge on the left. Barnsley won just about every second ball tonight...wanted it more than us.

Hal was a positive though, back on form after a bad game on Saturday. McCleary is always a threat when you get him the ball in space, and Pog's new lease of life continued with another decent performance.

Not sure what to think at the end of it all though...in the grand scheme of things it could be a decent point as Barnsley were right on it this evening, but if we don't improve pretty markedly by Saturday we'll get a hiding at Turf Moor.

Really? His deliveries we terrible tonight. The goal shouldn't mask the fact he had a pretty poor performance by his previous (last seasons) standards.

His delivery wasn't great but he was strong on the ball, beat his man plenty of times, and scored a fantastic goal. Yeah, I'd say he was a positive tonight.

By the sounds of it a few of the problems that have been brewing over the last few games under the surface were more evident today. Our inability to score from open play, the lacklustre tempo etc. That said a point is good, and fifth position is good, and 6 games unbeaten is good. Let's hope they step up at Turf Moor.
