I thought our last real hooligans disappeared with the 'retirement' (I assumed they retired) of 'Kirbs' and the Jolly Porter Crew.

I can remember an uncomfortable situation at Darlington when my mates and I were relieved to see the late arrival of the crew - saved us from a beating.

Oh, and when has 'Police say' every represented a hard fact?!

Kirby died a few years ago but I think he'd calmed down a bit a few years before. One of his "boys" pinched my bum in an away pub and I told him to fook off and Kirby apologised on his behalf...

it is difficult to make it credible when whoever wrote it clearly lacks instruction in the use of there/their and the apostrophe and that's just the start.

The Reading Comical is at it again

Sorry to hear that he died. He can't have been that old?

Berkshire Media Group Statement

Published: 21 Mar 2014 11:30

A statement from the Managing Director of Berkshire Media Group.

Berkshire Media Group, publishers of the Reading Chronicle wish to apologise unreservedly for appearing to link football hooliganism with the Hillsborough tragedy on our front page of this week’s issue. It was never our intention to do so and we fully accept that hooliganism played no part in the tragic events of 15th April 1989.

Keith McIntyre

Managing Director

Berkshire Media Group

Notice there is no apology to Reading Football Club or the fans.

Might have something to do with this:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/atto ... ests-start

Personally I feel the government need to make an example of the Chronicle. You can't have local hacks and editors riding roughshod over advice from the attorney general.

This is worse than the NoTW. The owners should close the title immediately whilst the full force of the law is brought down upon Gutteridge & co.

Maybe they can relaunch the paper in a few months. Perhaps call it The Weekend Midweek Chronicle or something.

The only things Hillsborough and Heysel are symbols for is the total disregard to football spectator safety that Authorities displayed at that time.

It was always going to happen now that football has become semi-respectable and awash with money and glamour that newbie football twats would be tempted to start re-writing history via ungracious and ill informed articles - the Authorities have already been found out for covering up evidence and fabricating stories and still the message doesn't quite sink in due to it being an inconvenient truth for all kinds of prejudices.

Thats 50 017 "Royal Oak" on a special charter at Harwich Parkeston Quay in 1989. I was on it. Not dressed as a Nazi. True Factz.

Nice one TVP
Thames Valley Police said out of 18 fixtures at the stadium last season, only two were policed.

Supt Stuart Greenfield, area commander for Reading, said: "We would say that Reading Football Club is one of the best run football clubs in the FA.

"It's irresponsible and I don't think it portrays the right picture of Reading football club at all."

This has to be the best bit surely:

October 26 , 2013 v Millwall. Score 1-1
During the match police were told Reading supporters had
racially abused a Millwall player. Reading FC sent two plain
clothes staff to sit in the area and, after speaking to other fans,
they established that no racial abuse had been used and there
had actually been chants about the player being fat.

Which is just as bad as racism. Calling someone a fat bastard is just as bad as calling someone a black bastard.

On the whole, being fat is a lifestyle choice. Being black isn't.

That's fine then. The messiah has spoken. :|

Maguire Seriously though, everyone banging on about libel seems to have missed the point that the whole article is based on facts provided by the police.

Says you who windmilled into six away fans outside the ground, when they were just minding their own business. THUG.

Agreed Mags. We know these things happen on a match day now and again. I wouldn't say it's a massive problem at Reading but there is still trouble when the 'right' team is in town.
