Wayne Bridge announces retirement

by strap » 06 May 2014 17:55

Probably not a surprise as his one year contract was unlikely to be renewed anyway.

Wayne Bride announcing his retirement from football is like me announcing my retirement from eating Pineapples. Doesn't make a difference to any of our lives

Disappointed with this. predicted he'd go back to brighton on competition.

It's a sad day. No chance of seeing Frankie Sandford at the Mad Stad now.

Not really their fault clubs are willing to pay that kind of money to players and then replace them with more expensive players.

As for him being a crock, well he was fine for Brighton last season so it looks like we've just been a bit unfortunate that his knee packed in this season.

I thought he'd retired a year ago.

Good riddance.

Exactly. He knew he was a crock & could have retired months ago & saved us a bit of cash but no he still took the money like he has done for pretty much the last decade of his career.

Oozed class early on, but one season too far for him.
Still, he did well when he played
And that's pretty much all i ask

Started well, but then that was it, sad to see him go tbh if the injury had gone completely then maybe he could have done well for us.

Excellent last year playing more than 40 games for Brighton, and brilliant for us early in the season before he got injured. Don't agree with the hate, who knew he'd get injured? I'm sure he'd rather not retire yet and enjoy getting paid thousands of pounds a week for something he loves for a couple of years.

I thought Bridge would be a great signing for the Royals at the beginning of the season his class and experience were just what was needed.

We should have learnt from the Ferdinand, Keown fiasco, don't sign older players.

Agree with The Real Sandhurst Royal & Royal Ginger. Plenty were excited at the big name signing last summer - that hasn't always worked out well for us though.
He looked quality at the start of the season before the injury, even if he struggled with the number of games.
Forget the attempted comeback, he was miles off the pace and clearly wasn't match fit but those were desperate times.
Given finances are tight I'd have released him. But I wish him no ill will.
