Rax No - as a previous poster said - that dubious honour goes to Mark Reilly.

I even remember the Post's write up on it at the time "Kilmarnock midfielder gives up European football for the Royals!" "Blimey!" I thought "He must be alright!" I thought - guess me and several others were wrong - he was by far the worst player I've ever seen to grace the hoops - although Blackman does run a close second!!

Thank you. Finally someone else mentions him. I was starting to worry that it had all just been a nightmare. A blink and you'll miss him Reading career but had to be exceptionally bad if Burns sussed him in half a dozen games.

Ian Herring Danny Bailey.

Irving Gernon. (Apart from his debut when he was sublime.)

Steve Moran.

Elroy Kromheer.

Keith Knight.

Etc...

Steve Moran?? He may have been distracted by the fact that his strike partner was shagging his wife, but he wasn't that bad!

To be fair to Halford he is not a poor player, it just didn't work out for him here. Evers on the other hand was right up there with the worst signings; someone somewhere walked away from that with a nice brown envelope, grinning at the con they'd pulled off.

John Peel Worst signing - definitely not. Disappointing - yes. He scored, he assisted, he got us excited with his potential. Compare that to about half of Tommy Burns's seven signings on deadline transfer day or £6m worth of disappointment in Fae and Halford. The list before Drenthe is very long. Omar Daley anyone!???

Keith Scott, Paul Brayson, Ray Houghton, Michael Meaker, Paul Bodin, Bobby Mikhailov... we could be here all day.

Paul bodin could probably have been beaten for pace by a statue. Probably my second least favourite Reading player behind Mark Reilly.

He did have an absolutely stunning game V Swindon at Elm Park though. Almost redeemed himself in 90 minutes for his whole Sh!tty RFC career.

I'd take him over someone pretty good but undeniably boring any day. If we sell him then I'd expect Bikey back as an absolute minimum

jellytot When you consider wages against performances he must be in top 3.

Other candidates for this award?? Mas Sarr, karl Asaba (striker who could not head..)

Anyway good rid Royston.

For sheer disappointment, for sheer attitude, for sheer spend on wages and signing on fee, for the fact that he is inexorably linked to a rotten regime.....Drenthe is our worst signing ever, agreed.

Not quite sure what Drenthe is playing at on his Instagram. He's not in Brazil, he's at Hogwood with everyone else #readingfc

Not sure what is more embarrassing, the likes of Sir Dodger Royal and other Twitter spackers commenting on that photo, or that anyone could actually care.

Pepe the Horseman I've got no memory of Mark Reilly at all.

I'd gone off to Uni at that period, so only saw a handful of games, I remember names, but not much about what they looked like or where they played. But then there was so much dross under Burns it's hard to separate your Jimmy Crawford from your Sean Evers, from your Mark Reilly. All three of them would have been sent to the glue factory if they were racehorses.

I remember Crawford, Evers etc clearly, just no recollection at all of Reilly! His name doesn't even ring a bell. Strange.

double d

Benik Afobe on loan was terrible. Didn't do squat. Did he not tear us a new one though when we lost against Sheff Weds last season?

Sekou Baradji and Eric Obinna Chukwenleyu were quite pointless aswell, although I do remember the former assisting Gunnarsson for the winner against Sheff Utd when we beat them.

Khumalo was dogsh1te, as was Jon Halls.

Any of these but I would probably say Halford just because he cost so much and played so little.

Not sure I entirely agree with that. Didn't he play in the 4-2 @ West Ham and pulled their defence around the place all game? Might be my mind playing tricks on me.

Edit: Just read the match report of said game and he came on after 82 minutes  . As you were.
