Contract Renewals

by LoyalRoyal22 » 12 Aug 2014 14:59

Now we have clarity over the ownership of the club, its massively important we start to get some of our key players tied up. I believe the following are all in the last year of their deals..

McCarthy
Federici
Gunter
Pearce
Karacan
Guthrie
McCleary

Would be a disaster to lose any of those for nothing next summer. Especially as we don't seem able to pay a significant fee for any new players.

Club need to get on it ASAP

Not too fussed if Pearce and a keeper go, but the rest yes; and ideally getting a fee rather then letting them leave for nothing obviously.

Those known to be in their last year are:

Adam Federici
Alex McCarthy
Mikkel Andersen
Stuart Moore
Jonathan Henly
Chris Gunter
Stephen Kelly
Alex Pearce
Shaun Cummings
Pierce Sweeney
Danny Guthrie
Garath McCleary
Ryan Edwards
Jem Karacan
Craig Tanner
Dominic Samuel ('initial one year deal' - suggests it can be extended)
Aleksandar Gogić
Royston Drenthe (option to extend by 1 year)
Samúel Friðjónsson

Mackie's loan expires end of season. Not sure when he is contracted to with Forest.

Sounds like the club will be starting renewals soon, but still that's a lot of futures to start deciding soon...

It's possible a few have been extended without publication (Tanner) but that's unusual especially as we let so many such as Tshibola go to their end of contract this time round.

Worth emailing the club in case they aren't aware. Easy to overlook this sort of thing.

So what would people do?

Adam Federici Wait - keep if McCarthy is sold or displaced or we are promoted
Alex McCarthy Renew now
Mikkel Andersen Release
Stuart Moore Release
Jonathan Henly Probably release
Chris Gunter Renew now
Stephen Kelly Wait - keep if promoted
Alex Pearce Renew now
Shaun Cummings Wait - keep if first choice, or we are relegated
Pierce Sweeney Probably renew
Danny Guthrie Renew now (but negotiate wages down)
Garath McCleary Renew now
Ryan Edwards Wait
Jem Karacan Assess after return, probably renew
Craig Tanner Renew now
Dominic Samuel ('initial one year deal' - suggests it can be extended) Probably release
Aleksandar Gogić Probably release
Royston Drenthe (option to extend by 1 year) Sell now, otherwise renew if he breaks into the first team
Samúel Friðjónsson Whatever

So ideally we'll have six contract renewals in the coming month or so.

You look at all the contracts that need extending, the increases in wage (where applicable), and the debts the Thai's have paid off, and still you get numpties expecting tens of millions to be spent on new players. Just isn't going to happen! I think the three that have come in are good additions considering.

+1 maffff (but with a view to improving on Pearce and him becoming backup or sold for value.

That's what the parachute payments are for, to give relegated clubs a chance of stability.

SPARTA but with a view to improving on Pearce

That will only happen if we get promoted.

If we renew the contracts of Feds, McCarthy, Henly, Moore and Gogic then we will have eight senior goalkeepers competing for two starting spots (including Lincoln, Legg and Ward). At some stage we have to let them go. Moore's not as promising as a few others and Henly is reaching an age where he needs first team football. Federici and McCarthy will both demand starting wages and we can only use one of them. I've not seen Gogic play but he's already behind Ward in the pecking order so...

It's a difficult but good problem to have.

We've got something like 3 'first team' keepers, 4 u21, 5 u18 and at least two u16, As it stands going through the Academy down to u16 we've got 14 goalkeepers on the books. No doubt we'll have to move some on. Don't want to see either of them leave really though, both still very young in terms of goalkeeping and that's the one position where loans to much lower level clubs aren't necessarily harmful.

Can't see Andersen doing another year or two here, McCarthy might be harder to shift than we thought and I can see Federici being here for the forseeable.

We're surely going to face a few issues with keeping players happy - like CB being Morro, Pearce, Ferdinand, Hector(?), then we have Cooper, Dickie, Hyam, Jules looking good and possibly Dvali if he gets his permit sorted.

Nobody seems to care right now. But come next summer we will be in a right mess losing our key players.

It's not our job to care.

There is nothing we can do.

Just let Hammond deal with it.

He's probably got contract expiry dates on a wall chart.

Contract situation is my biggest concern at the moment. Literally all of our best players. Imagine how much it would cost to buy replacements for Pearce, Karacan, Guthrie, Gunts & Gmac :|
