It's a shame to see he's not been involved from the off but I think he will make more appearances over the season.

I saw a bit of the Pompey game and he looked to be at fault partly for one of their goals. He didn't get close enough to the striker in the box, allowing him the space to shoot and score.

Seeing the quality of our 2 at the back now perhaps makes us realise Pearcey was a wholehearted, committed defender but not that good

Summed him up perfectly. All heart but lacking in ability and pace.

I think we might want to wait a little longer than 2 league games for McShane and 1 for Ferdinand before writing Pearce off as far inferior.

We've done great in replacing him, so it seems. Lets celebrate that rather than belittle a great servant of the club who came through our youth ranks and was outstanding in (at the very least) the year we won the league. A player who also clearly cared about the club. Our defensive record isn't exactly astonishing without him this season. Played 2 conceded 2.

Royalwaster Well he's not made a huge impact at Derby yet - not selected for first game; played in cup defeat and then not even in squad for second match ..... where did it all go wrong Pearce?

He's on the bench tonight.

Great servant unfortunately doesn't = great player, if it did all the nice guys would be at the top, life is not like that. Not being great doesn't detract from a persons goodness.

Yes he was practically ever present in the championship year and was often played in the premiership too

Didn't watch it, was it a bad injury? Shackell is immense so could be a huge boost if he's missing for our game in a couple of weeks.

Oh who am I kidding, their first choice eleven could be injured and we'd still lose.

We need defensive cover, do you reckon Pearce might be worth a punt ?

Nah, looked like. Minor muscle strain. Probably precautionary with a lot of games coming up in the next 2-3 weeks. I'd expect him to be back to face us.

Why would we go there? OK, he's all heart and will stick his noggin' where others wont, but he's too slow and has the turning circle of a JCB. We still have a problem against pace. Pearce will only make that worse.

I didn't think of Pearce as a 'problem' when he was here. He got positionally very astute in his later years here, which more than made up for his lack of pace. A poor man's Tony Adams.

He might have got better at reading the game, but he continued to get turned far too easily on an almost weekly basis. He wouldn't improve us. Time to move on.
