Jim and Mick

by Sutekh » 07 Sep 2015 14:31

OS has posted this worthwhile evening out coming up....

Come and chat to Royals legends Quinn and Gooding

The Reading FC Former Players’ Association are pleased to announce the next in their very successful and popular series of evenings with former Royals heroes.

Reading legend Jimmy Quinn makes a welcome return to Berkshire and will join fellow club legend, teammate and joint-team manager Mick Gooding when they appear at the Tilehurst Royal British Legion club, Downing Road, Reading RG31 5BB on Thursday, 15th October 2015. Doors and bar opens at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm start.

Host and fellow teammate Ady Williams will once again lead a conversation with Jimmy and Mick in his customary open, relaxed and attentive manner before opening the floor to a question and answer session with the audience.

Jimmy and Mick will cover the success of the championship winning season of 1993/94 season, the aftermath of Mark McGhee’s departure and the club’s rise to second in Division One in 1995. They will talk about the mixed emotions of that May day at Wembley, as well as speaking about their immense Football League experience.

Mick Gooding played over 700 league games in a career stretching 20 years and is now a highly acclaimed radio commentary pundit and co-commentator for BBC Radio Berkshire. Jimmy, made a similar number of league appearances and is Northern Ireland’s top goal scorer having been capped 46 times and representing his country in the 1986 World Cup finals.

Tickets for this event are available at £20 from the Reading FC Former Players’ website at www.readingfcformerplayers.co.uk/events

Sutekh Jimmy, made a similar number of league appearances and is Northern Ireland’s top goal scorer

Jimmy Quinn - 12 goals
David Healy - 35 goals

It's close, I suppose.

Mick Gooding ... and is now a highly acclaimed radio commentary pundit! Really, maybe when he's not moaning about the drive to and from games. I find him depressing to listen to.

If Jimmy impresses on Thursday do you think the club might offer him a coaching role, after all he is quite probably the best header of a ball the club has had since they stopped playing with lethal weapons as footballs.

i raise you trevor morley

'Morley suffered a severe head injury playing against Portsmouth. Elbowed by Jon Gittens Morley's forehead was crumpled, a sliver of shattered bone entering his eye. He suffered a depressed fracture above his right eyebrow. The injury required forty staples, extensive surgery including facial reconstruction, four days in hospital and the insertion of six metal plates in his skull which will remain for the rest of his life'

And he was still heading them in

lol @ modern day footballers

Didn't Trevor Morley's wife stick a knife in him too? Or did I dream that?

Brilliant night , the word legend is often overused but Jimmy Quinn, Micky Gooding and Ady Williams are true RFC legends . Highly entertaining with Micky very funny some wonderful anecdotes and a great insight to those great days at Elm Park

it was a good evening. JQ didn't seem so comfortable with a microphone in his hand but MG seems more than at home and gave some gr8 anecdotes.

I wondered about asking the question about Scott Taylors black eye but someone else did. Quinn said he carried on kicking ST when on the ground and only stopped when Parky punched him. MM gathered all the players together without Quinn and asked them all if JQ should be in the starting XI the next day. They all voted no they didn't want him playing. Arrived the next day and MM had put him in the starting XI anyway, Quinn then scored the winning goal.

Oh and James Lambert was as much of a c**k as everyone assumed

What's the story there? Quinny beat him up in training?
