Can't remember the game but "Chalky" White from about 35 yards would have to be #1

Can't remember the game, but Whitehead coming for a cross, caught the ball and chucked it into the net.

I'd go for that one - he was out by the touch line and chipped a ball back to Death and it bounced over his head - freezing cold day and a bone hard pitch - I think it was against Hartlepool late 1970's

That one.

Number two would be Federici against Arsenal at Wembley.

The 4-3? There was a Vivash own goal, but the Whitehead cock up that match was trying to stop a backpass going for a corner and gifting a goal to Oxford instead. I was thinking of another one of his gaffs.

Good video here of funny own goals and opposition mistakes that have lead to goals FOR us rather than against us by our own players -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-N-E-NHzSXE

Worst own goal by us has to be this one, about 2 minutes into this video, as despite being very unlucky it cost us in a big game -

The Whitehead error against Oxford was brilliant. Not an OG of course, but trying to stop a ball going out in the pouring rain, stopping it on the line and then sliding off the pitch whilst the Oxford player gleefully walked it into an empty net.

Best OG I can remember in our favour was one at Grimsby about 12 years ago. Guy tackled Henderson (?) and managed to lob his own keeper from absolutely miles out.

Alan Pouton. He and Henderson had been kicking lumps out of each other all game and I'm convinced it was a misstimed attempt to break his leg.

There is no doubt that not only would the goal not have stood today, but Henderson would almost certainly have been sent off.

Mark White's own goal was executed in one of the first games I ever saw for Reading. It was terrible to watch. Whitey, however, went on to be a superb left back and Maurice Evans said if it hadn't been for injuries he would have played at the top level for his entire career and I agree. A wonderful player and a lovely man (not that I ever met him but that is his rep).
