Totally agree with howser's assertion that Brian McDermott is not good at building a great Championship side. Except of course that time when he built a great Championship side and won the league.

Yeh, but on the flip side there was that time were he just built a good Championship side, that only managed to get to the play-off final.

Don't forget that other time, when he built a championship side with Coppell and won the league. But apart from sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, fresh water a public health, what has McD ever done for us?

I suppose you could also argue that Brian built a Championship side that ended up......back in the Championship where it belonged.

I think it would be fair to say that the squad is now weaker than when McDermott took over with Blackman and Sa leaving. Style of football is getting worse but as McDermott has proven before that can be effective, let's just hope it is.

Oh yeah. And there was that time when he took us from relegation candidates in December to the fringes of the play-offs. But let's disregard that.

Yeah apart from those three seasons which were all flukes, McDs only real achievement was to not be given a chance to save us from relegation when the club gave him 10p to spend on players he didn't ask for

When you put it like that, you can kind of understand why some people are so aggressive towards the baldy wanker.

Disagree, I think people have simply decided beforehand that McD plays a certain way and refuse to accept anything else.

The "style" (whatever that means anyway), is no different. We're still playing some good stuff at times but we rarely sustain it for long enough periods and even when we do, we're not taking our chances. The only real difference is that our good periods come later on in games now rather than early in games under Clarke. That could be remedied though if McD stops doing daft things like playing Williams on the wing from the start. to be fair to him he is still trying to find the best way post Blackman and now Sa to get the best from the squad he has, which has always been his way of working.

Johann When we were 3d and 4th div we knew no better and perhaps " knew our place " and never in my wildest dream could I have envisaged top flight football , but having tasted the forbidden fruit of the premier league it leaves you with greater expectations . So yes 4th div football was better .

Don't go back as far as you but I can appreciate this.

It is better to have never loved, than to have loved and lost, or something.

Yeah, :| that

It would be slightly unfair to argue it's the same.

It's still inconsistent and we should be doing better but it's slightly improved and deffo no worse.

and on top of that, oxf*rd all the shit about style.
the best style is one that wins. the end.
and id rather watch a million games of old school reading wingplay/counter attack than 1 game of painfully dull tika taka in our own half.
