CONFIMRED - Liam Moore

by Barcelona Blue » 22 Jul 2016 17:08

Reading are interested in Leicester City defender Liam Moore.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of plenty of interest this summer, with Rotherham United believed to already have an offer on the table.

And getreading understands Royals have now entered the race as Jaap Stam looks to bolster his defensive options ahead of the new season.

Moore played a big part in Leicester gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2013/14, featuring 33 times as the Foxes cruised to the Championship title.

The former England Under-21 international found his opportunities limited the following campaign, making 11 appearances in the top flight before joining Brentford on loan.

It took the mods almost 2 years to ban Dave Royal so they're sticking true to form

I'd be very pleased with this. Very young for a centre back but has a lot of championship experience.

Think he'd be pricey but worth it.

We certainly need 1 or 2 centre backs. Certainly 1 who is good enough to play regular Championship football.

And presumably Stam would know a good centre back when he sees one.....

I hoped last season when Leicester had gone up we might have been able to get him on loan.

If we could get him on a perm I'd be well excited by this, good CB.

We're in the Championship, need a centre back, and he's got a Championship winner's medal.

No brainer, hope we can finalise it.

Young, bags of experience at this level and would be a guaranteed starter. Exactly the sort of player we need.

According to the EP there has been a breakthrough in talks with Leicester over Liam's signature and it looks like it's down to just agreeing a fee or it may be a loan with a view to a permanent deal but Reading are keen on the former. Hopeful he should be lining up v Preston either way.

Famous last words of course

Really hope we get this finalised soon.

If Leicester keep stalling surely we should be looking to someone like getting Marriappa back here. Hope we get one of them here before Preston.

And from the Leicester Mercury...

Leicester City centre-back Liam Moore is nearing a transfer to Championship side Reading.

The 23-year-old academy graduate appears to be surplus to requirements at City and he could be heading to the Royals, with new manager Jaap Stam revealing negotiations are ongoing.

"The club are in talks with him. We're just waiting to see if it can go through," said Stam.

"We want to have him at the club so we're just waiting on Leicester. I've seen him play, I think his style of play suits us - but it's about Leicester as well and what they want to do.

"He is a quality player. We need players who are fast, quick, defensively strong and good in the build-up as well. He's got those qualities so I hope we can pull it off."

Reports in Berkshire suggest a fee is still to be agreed, and that Moore may even move on a season-long loan with an option to buy, but Reading are confident of completing the transfer in some guise before they kick off their campaign against Preston next Saturday.

Moore has not played a league match for City since December 2014, and has had loan spells at Brentford and Bristol City over the past two seasons.

The defender has not travelled with City to Los Angeles and is not believed to be a part of Claudio Ranieri's first-team plans.

Hardly played football in 2 years.

Couldn't even get a look in at Bristol City last season when they were in free fall.

Do we actually scout players or just look at a list and pick from it?

Just cos he didn't play for Bristol City doesn't mean he's not good. His style may not have suited theirs etc etc Plus the fact he was only there 3 months.

He was ever present in Leicester's Championship winning season. People drop out of managers plans/get injured. Doesn't make them bad players.

Was when they had Cotterill in charge still, who by all accounts didn't win himself any friends by consistently strange team selections, often omitting stand out players from the game before.

Don't think we should read too much into that.
